Summary
Technician's primary responsibility is to provide basic husbandry, restraint, restrain, and technical study support in compliance with local regulatory requirements. The Technician completes these tasks with comprehensive knowledge and detailed understanding of procedures and SOPs associated with animal care, husbandry and facility support.

Primary Responsibilities
Technician's primary responsibility is to provide basic husbandry, handling, restrain, and technical study support in compliance with local regulatory requirements. The Technician completes these tasks with comprehensive knowledge and detailed understanding of procedures and SOPs associated with animal care, husbandry and facility support.
• Must be comfortable handling and restraining mice and rats.
• Must possess very good technical skills. Will need to perform multiple technical procedures including, but not limited to: PO, IP, SC dosing in mice and rat, bleeding in mice and rats, data collection such as body weight and food weight, euthanasia.
• Must be comfortable performing husbandry/cage changes in mice and rats.
• Maintain and perform housekeeping and facility support areas as assigned
• Ability to perform clinical animal observations for health assessment.
• Comfortable with computer systems: will need to work with computerized study records, enter observations/measurement in excel spreadsheets, handle e-mails, web-based training, online forms and other basic computer programs.
• Weekend and holiday work are required for the job.

Organizational Relationships
1. Daily interaction with fellow animal technicians in animal rooms and on studies.
2. Daily interaction with management and veterinary staff.
3. Daily interaction with scientists conducting study work

Education, experience and certifications
High school degree or GED required , Associates or BS/BA in related field preferred. 2+ years work experience in a laboratory animal setting required required .
AALAS certification at the LAT(or equivalent) required.

Technical Skill Requirements
• Must be comfortable handling and restraining mice and rats.

• Must be comfortable performing husbandry/cage changes in mice and rats.

Physical Requirments
• Will need to work in areas with BSL2 requirement
• Will need respiratory fit testing up to date
• Must be able to lift 20 pounds and work standing up lifting items above shoulder
level for extended periods of time.
• Will need to be their feet most of the day
• Ability to perform repetitive physical activities such as: pushing and pulling racks
of caging, lifting bags of feed and bedding, reaching, stooping and bending.
