Level 4 Computer Lab Support

The Level 4 Lab Support Tech will provide basic lab support for two site physical labs as well as support of iLab (virtual labs) as required.
  • Support to provide system hardware / software install, upgrades, system repair, KVM, PDU install, and debug in the lab environment
  • Hardware / software upkeep to include assistance with client compliance and procedural enhancements, system assembly, and system image creation for non-standard desktop, laptop, and KVM hardware located in the data center / lab used in the virtual environment
  • At higher competency levels, conduct failure diagnosis and analysis of failures, as well as develop additional test and debug aids to improve overall productivity and performance
  • Support will be provided as dedicated models with 40 hours a week during standard business hours
  • Coordinate with site managers for local lab support
  • Document processes and train junior peers
Physical Lab Support:
  • Build systems and configure hardware and platforms from a BOM
  • Custom OS or software support needed in the Lab environment
Virtualization Support (iLab)
  • Remote installation and/or upgrading of Hypervisor software on Blade series hardware
  • Integrating Hypervisor servers into existing virtualization environments
  • General VM access, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Moving and provisioning of VMs or Image templates within the virtualization environments
  • Generic virtualization troubleshooting of hypervisor and web interfaces
  • Generic virtualization storage troubleshooting
  • Guarantee iLab server and KVM connectivity; as well as all non-IT network connected iLab hardware
  • General understanding of virtualization concepts and implementation, i.e. setup, install, configure, troubleshoot
  • General understanding of Network Management, i.e. interconnectivity, integration, Add / Edit / Remove requests, firewall restrictions
  • General understanding of Remote Connectivity & Management, i.e. integration with iLab, DNS requests, Edit / Change / Remove requests
  • Working knowledge of Windows OS
  • Basic knowledge of installing and networking Linux (no Linux OS troubleshooting required)
  • Install updates to firmware or system drivers 
  • Maintain systems, tool support PCs, servers and KVMs to ensure connectivity
  • Setting up multiple clients that connect to one server in temporary lab projects
  • Complete intake process request i.e. ticket
  • Working knowledge of Windows required (Linux a plus)
  • OS includes Windows (client and server) and some Linux (Ubuntu, SLES)
  • Acronis setups, Microsoft Office, VNC, DataGrove setup, and other system maintenance as requested
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of networking of systems in a Windows Active Directory environment (DCHP, DNS, Users and Groups, account creation, etc.)
  • General knowledge of networking subnetting (all labs use different subnets, Isolated or Community, VLANs)
  • Must complete client training (hazardous materials, data center safety, etc.)
  • Read, understand, and follow test documentations
  • Assist in volume equipment upgrades, testing, and readiness tasks including lab space alterations, equipment allocation / placement, and basic rework
  • Must know how and when to escalate and ask for help
