TITLE: .Net Architect
LOCATION: Eden Prairie, MN
DURATION: 6+ Months - Contract to Hire

JOB SUMMARY:
A .Net Architect is responsible for the design and development of software systems, applications, and solution components, within a portfolio of clients. A Software Principal Architect also acts as a high-level decision maker in the design process, determining design choices, platforms, and technical standards and coding standards across all portfolios. Works with business and technical staff to design a solution that meets business needs
  1. Provides a balanced approach between technical solutions and business requirements for designs and problem resolution.
  2. Designs and builds applications compliant with application frameworks and standards and assists in maintaining them.
  3. Creates and maintains design artifacts as required by the development methodology and by the team.
  4. Able to understand the philosophy of architecture and to extend it in a well thought out manner.
  5. Provides leadership for technical teams, including mentoring software engineers, leading design/code reviews, and reviewing other artifacts as appropriate.
  6. Assists in bringing new team members up-to-speed.
  7. Ensures that all technical documentation is complete, and that developers are following best practices.
  8. Is very involved (along with other disciplines) in creation of accurate & realistic estimates of all major systems functions.
  9. Signs off on all application or system changes prior to development.
  10. Troubleshoots issues that arise and escalates as appropriate.
  11. Able to accurately estimate software architecture projects.
  12. Uses independent judgment in developing recommendation but consults with colleagues and Principal Architect before implementing recommended changes.
  13. May be responsible for the architecture of one or more client solutions in a portfolio.
  14. Communicates continuously with technical and/or business leaders in a manner they can understand.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the above:
  1. Provides technical oversight of the applications and systems across all portfolios/IT.
  2. Contributes to the industry, perhaps establishing & presenting new industry standards, technologies, or patents.
  3. Guides the architecture across all clients, working in close partnership with the business team and vendors.
  4. Makes recommendations regarding new industry technology, best practices, and strategy, balancing new technologies with the practical business needs.
  5. Leads or mentors Software Portfolio Architects. Able to work in a Software Portfolio Architect role when needed.
  6. Provides mentoring and helps lead continuous improvement via the Center of Excellence.
  7. Contributes to the Enterprise Architecture.
  8. Works without supervision on highly complex projects.
  9. Effectively communicates the business value of complex technical solutions in a manner that senior executives (internal and client) can understand.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
Qualifications

Portfolio Architect
  • Bachelor degree in computer science or related IT field, and a minimum of 10 years' experience of designing and programming.
  • Experience in waterfall & agile methodologies.
  • Expertise in the following technologies:
    • OOD (Object Oriented Design), Class Modeling, and UML (Unified Modeling Language). Various methods of system interaction, models, and protocols (Web Services, Messaging, SOA, RPC, HTTP, SOAP, TCPIP, XML, etc.).
    • SQL / PLSQL, ETL / SSIS, SSRS, etc.
    • Database and application design and modeling experience.
    • .Net and/or PowerBuilder.
  • Certified in relevant technologies.
  • Able to work effectively with onshore & offshore teams.

Principal Architect
  • Bachelor degree in computer science or related IT field, and a minimum of 15 years' experience of designing and programming plus 5 years as a software architect.
  • Master's degree preferred.
Preferred
Qualifications
  • Ability to architect & troubleshoot software solutions with an awareness of networking, servers, operating systems, databases, internet, configuration management, or other technologies.
