Business Intelligence Developer

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Business Intelligence Developer IV is responsible for contributing to the development, test, maintenance, and enhancement of all Business Intelligence (BI) applications including Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), SSRS and Power BI providing specialized technical expertise to multi-faceted BI projects. 
 
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Business Intelligence Developer IV works with minimum supervision and direction taking reasonable actions necessary to carry out the assigned responsibilities of the position provided such actions are consistent with department practices, and policy and procedures of our client.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Business Intelligence Developer IV has no direct supervisory responsibilities but will be expected to take the lead on assigned projects and may oversee the work of others working on assigned project.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work in cross functional teams within both business units and Information Technology to assist with gathering and evaluating detailed project requirements to support delivery of effective business intelligence and reporting solutions.
  • Perform detailed systems, business and data analysis as preparation for implementation of complex BI projects.
  • Responsible for the analysis and support of Business Intelligence & Analytics products and platforms including but not limited to data warehouse, data visualizations, dashboards, and interactive reports.
  • Applies Business Intelligence and Analytics subject matter expertise (data modeling, data discovery, BI product offering development and conceptual insurance acumen) to provide the business support departments with the tools and data representations which allow increasing organizational profit and meeting strategic goals.
  • Conducts and may facilitate internal testing and user acceptance testing.
  • Contribute to, and possibly lead, project teams that are developing or modifying highly complex information solutions.
  • Assist with creation of functional and technical specifications.
  • Develop and test Database programming components including, but not limited to, stored procedures, user defined functions, and triggers to support Data Warehouse batch processes as well as enterprise data integration.
  • Develop and test ETL components using one or more ETL tools including T-SQL, SSIS, etc.
  • Develop and test custom reports and executive dashboards using one or more BI tools including SSRS, Power BI, etc.
  • Support interfaces with users and third-party entities.
  • Maintain, revise, and update existing software as required.
  • Analyze, write, and produce ad-hoc queries and/or reports as required.
  • Prepare technical and/or end-user documentation as required.
  • Provide Production support of BI applications and systems.
  • Mentor more junior developers and act as a lead in complex projects as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and debugging system failures and/or code as needed.
  • Adhere to best practices and standards as defined in the Software Development Life Cycle procedures.
  • Keep abreast of latest developments of related technology.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with customers and IT colleagues to meet expected customer service levels.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
     Knowledge, experience, skills and abilities:
  • In-depth knowledge of Data Warehousing concepts and techniques.
  • Highly proficient in Power BI.
  • Solid skills of database and related tools and applications, to include SQL Server RDBMS, T-SQL, SSRS, PowerQuery (M-language) and DAX.
  • In-depth knowledge of relational data modeling including star schemas.
  • Experience with R-scripting.
  • Any experience with Azure ML a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Familiar with project management techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to express complex technical concepts.
  • Solid teamwork, interpersonal, and customer service skills; ability to work well in cross-functional teams and foster team commitment to tasks.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful and able to conduct in-depth research as required.
  • Ability to work well under the direction of others.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all level of management, staff and members encountered in the course of work.

Education, Training and Experience:
Potential candidates for this position must meet the following requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or related equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience working with relational databases.
  • 7+ years of experience working as a programmer/database developer.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working with SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2012 or later
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience writing SQL, T-SQL.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working with Microsoft's BI stack; SSRS, SSAS, PowerPivot etc.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience with Power BI.
  • Experience in the finance/banking preferred.
 
 
Experience as outlined may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • The working environment is generally favorable.  Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
  • The job may require flexibility with regards to scheduling days, hours, and work location, depending on business needs.
  • The job is typically sedentary but may require standing and walking up to 35% of the work time to transfer files, ask questions, and related activities.
  • Required to travel to work sites or other sites for events.

The employee is frequently required to walk and stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus to read and operate office equipment as necessary during the course of the work assignments.
