Data Governance Project Manager

Data Governance Project Manager Role Summary:
Develop and deploy Metadata Management program and Data Governance initiatives to focus on how to utilize data to achieve exceptional growth through data standardization and information management.
  • Own responsibility for managing and overseeing the Metadata Management program and DG initiatives, including setting strategic priorities, setting milestones, reviewing progress, and reporting status.
  • Articulate and help demonstrate to key stakeholders that enterprise data is critical asset to drive enterprise growth and cost efficiencies.
  • Support development of enterprise data management policies to drive data standards and operational efficiencies.
  • Maintain working relationships with all levels of business leadership to ensure business needs are met.
  • Maintain alignment with global business process strategies through interaction with functional and segment business process owners. Serve as the Metadata Management and Data Governance Product Owner / Point of Contact for all Lines of Business.
  • Partner with Communications and Training to develop knowledge documentation, training, communications, and collaboration on Data Management Standards and Best Practices.
Establish a formal Metadata Management and Data Governance program that:
  • Creates effective engagement between Metadata Management, business operations, delivery teams, and IT
  • Identifies and coordinates the sharing of best practices
  • Translates the enterprise data value proposition into tangible operational benefits
  • Drives cultural change
Execute a holistic, multi-pronged approach to embedding Metadata Management and DG principles and practices across the enterprise.
  • Develop and evolve effective strategies, tools, and training to optimize Metadata Management and DG engagement into the lifecycle of critical waterfall / agile based projects and programs
  • Formalize accountability for the consistent management and usage of current and future data assets
  • Develop short and long term engagement strategies with Business Operations, Legal / Compliance, and Audit / Risk Management
In conjunction with impacted business operations, prioritize, drive, and monitor the development of data improvement opportunities or mitigating / corrective action plans.
  • Create strategy and operations to holistically monitor internal and external sources of information and metrics in order to analyze trends or patterns to identify data improvement opportunities and / or successfully mitigate emerging issues
  • Quantify, escalate, and monitor significant opportunities and risks by source system, data management policy, data management operations, program delivery, business segment, and shared services stakeholders (architecture, regulatory, audit, etc.)
  • Develop processes and tools to analyze and track opportunity / risk results, impacts, and progress to accelerate delivery / value of enterprise data to business operations, partners, and customers.
Develop timely communication and engagement to enable leadership to promote and facilitate improved, informed strategic decision making, actions, and adoption of Metadata Management standards and value of enterprise data to organization.
Maintain extensive knowledge and expertise of new technologies and data management practices through exposure to industry practices, changing technology, and proactive networking.
Skills
  • Must be skillful at verbal and written communication to both leadership teams and peer groups
  • Must be comfortable working with senior management, both on the business and technical sides. Must demonstrate ability to create professional relationships and effectively partner with and influence a cross-functional team.
  • Must be able to develop a long-range course of action or set of goals to align with the organization's vision.
  • Must be proactive in building and aligning stakeholders, capabilities, and resources for getting things done quickly and achieving complex objectives.
  • Must support the creation of an environment that embraces change; makes change happen—even if the change is radical— and helps others to accept new ideas.
  • Knowledge of data management concepts (e.g. Master Data Management , Data Quality, etc.) is a plus.
Qualifications
5-7 years of progress experience in informatics, data management, data governance, data stewardship, data quality management, metadata management, master data management , data architecture, business analysis, business intelligence, business process management, continuous improvement, Six Sigma, or commensurate experience.

Must Have Proven ability in:
  • Working within large corporate, highly matrixed environments and establishing working relationships and partnerships with senior business stakeholders and IT leaders.
  • Building and leading diverse teams with both internal and external resources and managing vendors to agreed-upon performance levels.
  • Understanding value of information in enabling business success, serving as champion for data as corporate asset, driving cultural change, and shaping development and execution of business vision.
  • Managing through systems and measuring work.
