13. Job Description:
The purpose of this position is to provide advanced GIS and technology support to the Department and Agency. This is accomplished through the use of a myriad of PC-based or web-based applications including GIS, Internet, and other technology initiatives. This position also provides project management support through the direction and organization of resources and technologies.

15. Additional Requirements of the Position:
Operates sophisticated and complex computer software and hardware, as provided by NCTCOG, for Geographic Information System (GIS) support. At a minimum, this includes utilizing Microsoft Office products and ArcGIS.
• Develops processes and procedures for collecting, analyzing, and maintaining GIS data and ensuring its accuracy; runs quality control checks on the data; makes recommendations on tools and activities for keeping GIS data updated; maintains metadata.
• Provides project management support through organizing and scheduling work tasks for interns and other GIS staff; assists in selection of interns and other GIS support staff.
• Completes administrative duties by collecting, integrating, and maintaining data; coordinating projects with other departments; creating database structures; providing software support; and creating presentations. This includes clearly communicating data requests to other NCTCOG departments and to external organizations.
• Provides technical assistance to staff and others as needed by assisting with training on GIS; finding answers to software, programming and conceptual questions; and converting and downloading geographical files and attributes.
• Provides data loading services by loading data on a periodic basis; assists in maintenance of toolbars, database connections, and other services.
• Participates in agency and regional GIS meetings; tracks project status and provides updates.
• Stays current on GIS technologies and techniques through interaction with other GIS professionals and review of industry literature. Suggests program improvements or methodologies based on current, best practice.
• Prepares GIS-based maps, graphs and other data for the department, other departments, or other agencies by building and creating various maps using GIS data; incorporating GIS edits into other files; manipulating and analyzing data to produce desired reports, maps, or graphs.
