Job Duties
The Data Entry Technician will perform the following tasks:
a) Enter docketing updates (data entry) in the Case View electronic case management system for matters handled by the Criminal Division, including court events and filings. Specific types of docketing updates span the life-cycle of criminal investigations and prosecutions and include case intake, complaints/indictments, arraignments, guilty pleas, trials, pre­sentence reports, sentencings, appeals, and post-conviction motions.
b) Use knowledge of the legal process and legal terms to analyze the content of legal documents and determine the status of investigative or court proceedings; recognize data elements that are missing, identify errors, and update entries as necessary in the Case View database; and work with attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants to verify case information, obtain information from the database, and interpret output from the system.
c) Run case management reports, search databases and PACER system, and respond to requests for case status information from client agencies, the courts, and USAO attorneys and support staff.
d) Open and close criminal cases and assist with the USAO's periodic case certification process.

The Data Entry Technician must possess the following qualifications and background:
a) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
b) Computer Skills: Ability to perform intermediate to advanced functions in electronic case management systems and docketing databases, including entering data in a timely and accurate manner, reviewing and interpreting database reports, and identifying errors for correction or updating.
c) Communication Skills: Strong reading comprehension and communication skills when interacting with attorneys, Court personnel, external govermnent agencies, and other individuals with information relevant to performing the duties outlined above.
d) Professionalism: Excellent attention to detail and ability to work and interact professionally with attorneys and legal support staff, meet established deadlines, and work in a high­ volume litigation environment.
e) Preference for individuals with knowledge of and experience with criminal litigation policies and procedures for the Department of Justice.
