Job Duties
The Paralegal/ Legal Assistant II will perform the following tasks:
a) Work with attorneys, agents, paralegals, legal assistants, and Automated Litigation Support (ALS) staff to collect, organize, process, review, and produce documents, electronic files, and other materials required for criminal discovery. Includes logging, tracking, and conducting quality control checks for incoming, processed, and outgoing discovery materials.
b) Provide assistance to paralegals and attorneys in trial preparation by performing duties such as compiling trial notebooks, assembling jury instructions, preparing witness and exhibit lists, and preparing master and copy sets of trial exhibits in both electronic and hard copy form. May assist with preparing courtroom presentation materials and presenting exhibits during criminal trials and motions hearings, as needed.
c) Perform basic legal research and assist attorneys and paralegals with preparing legal documents. Includes proofreading, editing, and cite-checking court filings such as appellate briefs, sentencing memos, motion responses, and search warrant affidavits.
d) Work with ALS staff, paralegals, legal assistants, and attorneys to organize, purge, and save trial materials and electronic case files for archiving.

The Paralegal Assistant must possess the following qualifications and background:
a) Strong undergraduate academic background with minimum 3. 7 GP A.
b) Demonstrated interest in pursuing a legal career and likely attending law school within the next 2-3 years, as reflected iI1 undergraduate coursework, extracurricular activities (e.g., trial advocacy, debate competitions), and legal internships or employment. Preferred prior employment, as an intern or full-time employee, with a criminal litigating component of the Department of Justice.
c) Excellent attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
d) Professional, positive, and mature attitude, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and iI1 a team environment. Includes strong oral and written communication skills.
e) Proficient with word processing, database, and spreadsheet software, including the ability to learn and deploy new and sophisticated technical tools such as the Eclipse and Relativity discovery review platforms.
