Job Duties
The contractor shall be a qualified individual certified to work with human samples.
The contractor will operate simple equipment such as autoclaves, centrifuges, pipets, pipet aids. The contractor will be trained on the operation of large complex equipment such as the Architect 1000iSR and Bioplex200. Therefore, the ability to learn quickly and be able to independently operate complex equipment soon after training is a critical need for this task.
The contractor will perform tasks including: centrifugation of whole blood specimens; processing, tracking and storing urine and blood cards; preparing, labeling, aliquotting and storing human and environmental samples in freezers or refrigerators until testing; shipping samples to other facilities.
The anticipated working schedule for this position is from 7:30 AM to 1:00PM, but the contractor must be flexible to occasionally work outside these hours if the need arises. The contractor must be skilled with timely and proper handling of human specimens to ensure sample preservation.
The contractor will need to be able to do repetitive motions. They will need to be able to stand for at least an hour at a time and lift as much as 20lbs. The contractor should be able to multi-task between projects while keeping accurate records. The contractor should be able to do basic manual data management and sample tracking using electronic files such as Excel, or equipment-based electronic files. Mobility is required for travel between buildings in the NIEHS campus.
The contractor must be vaccinated for Hepatitis B.
