VA Lottery – Part-Time Telecommunications Engineer

Hours – 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday. One hour lunch break
General Summary:
This technical resource will be supporting voice and Data communications at our Headquarters, Production Data Center, and Customer Service Center sites. Duties will also include telecommunications trouble shooting and resolution, SIEM network monitoring and analysis. NetScout network management analysis and tuning, WIFI, Avaya enterprise phone system, and backup SME for the Microlog Player information system (IVR).

This individual will also assist in the support and maintenance of all Telecommunications services; VOIP phone system, including new voicemail system, and new call recording system, IP-based Integrated Voice Response system, Avaya Ethernet switches and routers, VPN servers, and Skype for Business Unified Communications Services.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:

•Extensive knowledge of telecommunications network designs and protocols. •Extensive knowledge of commercially available products (switches, routers, bridges, hubs, firewalls, servers, PBX, IVRs, SIEM) and services (LAN, WAN, Wireless, Wireline, ISDN, cellular, satellite). •Comprehensive knowledge of Firewall administration.•General knowledge of network security procedures and vulnerabilities.•General knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and desktop applications. •Extensive knowledge of standard telecommunications workflows and procedures. •Ability to complete manual tasks related to communications wiring and equipment installation. •Knowledge of VPN fundamentals. •Knowledge of TCP/IP concepts (IP Subnetting, IPv4, IPv6)•Excellent troubleshooting skills. •Familiarity with electronic test & measurement equipment.•Good oral and written communication skills. •Must be able to work independently.

Education, experience, Licensure, Certification required for position:

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Communication Engineering or related field,
  • Experience with Avaya switches, routers and IP Office phone system
  • Experience with McAfee, FortiNet, and Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DNS fundamentals
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WLAN fundamentals

Special Requirements
  • Must pass Background Investigation. Minimal travel required
