Working Hours The 24x7 does require on-call availability on a rotating basis. There is no shift work.

Job Duties
The Senior Systems Engineer contractor will provide for the augmentation of the current EDPR Team in support of daily operations and maintenance with a focus on processing enterprise backup and restoration requests in support of Member offices, Exchange, financial systems, vendor servers, CAO servers and application servers.
This senior-level engineer will serve full-time, approximately 1920 hours per year, to assist EI with system administration activities relating to the evolving House EDSP infrastructure consisting of over 4 Petabytes. This includes, but is not limited to, managing the EDPR environment, supporting capacity planning, providing performance and trending analyses, advanced troubleshooting and assisting with new technology integration and research. The required duration for this support is a base period of one year with two additional option years. The contractor should be flexible enough to work a diversified schedule at all House data center locations and participate in 24x7 on-call technical support.

The contractor shall have the following expertise and qualifications:
  • 9 years of relevant experience
  • 3 years of experience with data protection systems
  • a Bachelor's degree in the related field or the equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Candidates must be able to secure and maintain Federal Government security clearances as deemed appropriate by management.
  • Evaluation, implementation, and management of production Veritas Enterprise Netbackup infrastructure, Veeam data protection software, DataDomain and Exagrid data targets
  • Implementation and management of enterprise data protection and recovery systems
  • Communicating technical topics to elected officials, senior executives, managers, and IT professionals in a manner appropriate to their knowledge level
  • Ability to comprehend and integrate complex computer technology and software into an effective enterprise data protection strategy
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, users, contractors, and vendors.
  • Relevant operating systems security (Windows, ESX, Solaris, Linux, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues with network/operating
  • systems
  • Experience with NetApp Snapshots

Understanding of:

Description of Work:
  • The Senior Systems Engineer will work directly with the Enterprise Infrastructure (EI) Enterprise Data Storage & Protection (EDSP) Branch performing the following duties:
  • Provide technical guidance in analyzing and evaluating backup policies and success rates
  • Provide daily management of production Veritas Netbackup systems including NBU Master/Media Servers,
  • Veritas Appliances, OpsCenter Analytics Server, OST technologies, Veeam Availability Suite, DataDomain and Exagrid data targets
  • Provide daily support of customer requests for recovery efforts to include but not limited to: Exchange,
  • Windows file systems, Unix files systems, Oracle databases, and SQL databases
  • Contractor will also provide assistance in planning, designing, and evaluating hardware and software recommendations to enhance and improve the Enterprise Data Protection & Recovery System as a whole
  • Position may require the ability to work shifts to provide support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
