The Sr. Security Systems Engineer is a hands-on position responsible for the maintenance and administration of the Splunk Enterprise environment.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Hybrid role combining key aspects of Support and Architecture responsible to design, develop, and recommend standards, best practices, and assist functional teams with implementation
  • Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established company policies and procedures
  • Develops and promotes standard operating procedures
  • Uses data and other information to influence decision making
  • Designs verification procedures to ensure reliability of newly installed or upgraded systems
  • Researches best practices for systems over which this position has been designated lead and coordinates implementation
  • Requires the selected candidate to possess business insight, technical acuity, and the ability to think, communicate, and write at various levels of abstraction
  • Manages information security activities related to the protection of PCI, PII, and other sensitive information which may reside in the system
  • Develops business-relevant metrics to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the program
  • Acts as subject matter expert to provide guidance with business and technical partners for new use case design and implementation into Splunk
  • Monitors and optimizes performance within the Splunk environment
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field; or significant work experience
  • Professional certification, such as a Splunk Certified Admin, or other similar credentials
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages including Python, PowerShell, and working with REST APIs
  • Strong conceptual thinking and communication skills – ability to conceptualize complex business and technical requirements into comprehensible models and templates
  • Ability to work well under minimal supervision
  • Team-oriented interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with a broad range of people and roles, including vendors, IT and business personnel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience:
  • 4 to 6 years of combined application development and security work experience
  • 2+ years’ Linux Systems Engineer experience or similar
  • 2+ years’ experience administering a distributed Splunk Enterprise Environment
  • Experience with Splunk Enterprise Security preferred
  • Knowledge of a security-specific architecture methodology or standards (NIST, ISO 27000-series, or equivalent)
  • Experience working with regulatory requirements such as Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS), and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX)
