Job Description

Specific Requirements for this Contract:
  • The primary responsibility for this position will be the design and development of two fixtures to be used for testing of pyrolytic carbon mechanical heart valves.
  • The first fixture will be a finished device proof tester that applies a load to the valve and utilizes acoustic emissions detection to identify structural defects in the carbon assembly.
  • The second fixture will be used to provide a means for leaflet insertion into a valve orifice that places minimal strain on the orifice while also detecting any acoustic anomalies.
  • Knowledge of how a SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) works and how to interpret SE (Secondary Electron) and BSE (Backscattered Electron) images.
  • Familiarity with the application of acoustic emissions.
  • Ability to read FEA (Finite Element Analysis) color contour plots.
  • Ability to read and understand fracture mechanics principles.
  • Ability to identify and interface with analytical services around the company, especially here in MPLS.
  • Ability to learn and apply Pyrolitic Carbon technology.
  • Knowledge of mass finishing techniques.
  • Excellent acute vision for microscope work
  • General Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
  • Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
  • May be responsible for the transfer from R&D to manufacturing.
