Position Description
Responsible for the design, development, and support of package systems for sterile medical devices including components, assemblies, and labels.
Position Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the design, development and implementation of packaging for existing and new medical products and devices including class-III products and accessories.
  • Evaluate materials, design, and configuration of primary, secondary, and other packaging to optimize customer benefits.
  • Consider shipping, warehousing, storage, and supply chain requirements for packaging, recommend improvements and implement the most efficient packaging solutions, considering cost, waste, damage, storage, handling requirements, etc.
  • Provide input on packaging considerations to the device design and development process.
  • Provide technical direction and expertise for packaging equipment and processes.
  • Execute all aspects of packaging development and testing as required.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to implement packaging changes. Prioritize and manage multiple projects, leveraging resources to meet project milestones and timelines.
  • Leads the improvement and standardization of packaging on existing products with focus on performance and cost effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Packaging and Labeling peers within CardioVascular to identify and implement best practices for packaging technologies and packaging processes.
  • Participate on cross-functional, cross-site project teams focusing on packaging, packaging technology and processes improvements.
  • Draft technical documentation including specifications, package testing protocols and validation associated with the qualification and release of package designs.
  • Identification of suppliers, testing and approving materials, including liaison with the vendors.
 Basic Qualifications
  • 2 to 4 years' experience in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, or medical device packaging with a BS Packaging or related engineering field (e.g. Mechanical or Materials), or advanced degree with 0-2 years relevant experience.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and PC based programs such as Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Minitab.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • IoPP Certified Packaging Professional (CPIT or CPP) certification.
  • Knowledgeable in ISO, ASTM, ISTA standards related to packaging.
  • Experience with automated packaging equipment and lines.
  • Experience with Solidworks, Agile, and SAP software.
  • Experience with process development and design of experiment (DOE) methodology.
  • Familiarity with FDA quality assurance requirements for design and manufacturing.
