Description:
  • The Advanced Diagnostics group at Client Technologies and Innovation in seeking a highly talented senior engineer to develop innovative solutions that address current and future health care needs in the area of infectious disease diagnostics.
  • The associate will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team that is developing technologies to address the global infectious disease diagnostics market.
  • The associate will develop, build and test microfluidic devices, instrumentation and related components for biological sample purification.
  • Responsibilities will also include development of test methods, collection and analysis of data, and the development and presentation of technical recommendations.
  • The associate will be expected to make strong contributions to the achievement of key operational goals with minimum oversight.
  • This position is a one year temporary position.
  • The candidate will have an advanced set of skills and knowledge in device design, fabrication, characterization, and biological applications, and should be able to plan and conduct scientific experiments and effectively analyze, interpret, and present experimental results.
  • The candidate should also be able to adapt to changing requirements that can arise in a dynamic work environment and will be expected to contribute intellectually in areas not directly related to his or her field.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, implementation and testing of microfluidic, optical, and/or electro-mechanical systems
  • Develop test methods to evaluate technical feasibility, identifying areas of remaining technical risk, and recognizing areas for improvement
  • Plan and lead activities, including device assembly method and process, fixture design and system optimization
  • Conduct device performance test with biological samples
  • Apply sound engineering and scientific judgement towards helping improve subsystem and component reliability
  • Identify and propose new technologies that can be employed to address unmet needs
  • Review and provide input into acceptance criteria for technical specifications
  • Communicate progress, results, conclusions and test steps to team and management
  • Keep lab notes, data and experimental observation in lab book
  • Demonstrate strong personal accountability for completion of project milestones and deliverables
  • Work independently, receiving technical guidance on complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects

Qualifications:

  • BS or greater in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
  • 3-5 years of medical device experience.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping disposable microfluidic devices strongly preferred
  • Experience with component material selection, injection molding, machining practices and electro-mechanical assemblies is preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing process development, validations and qualifications.
  • Experience designing automated or semi-automated system tests is preferred.
  • Experience with 3D CAD and Drafting (preferably SolidWorks Modeling).
  • Experience with performing device prototyping related root cause analysis
  • Proficiency with equipment/fixture fabrication and machine shop skills
  • Self-motivation, focus, determination, self-reliance, open-mindedness, amiability, and flexibility
  • Ability to work effectively within the project team and the cross-functional organization
  • Working knowledge with biological samples and BSL2 environment a plus
