CLO is seeking an instrumentation and electrical designer with industrial experience and familiarity with AutoCAD to perform design functions for plant modifications and projects. The role works closely with other site technical staff (chemical, mechanical, and electrical designers and engineers) and offsite equipment manufactures to produce documents that are used by company maintenance and contract groups to specify equipment and install modifications to the existing plant. Position does not frequently require overtime, but incidental OT may be available occasionally based on workload demand.
Prepare design packages using knowledge and skill in drafting techniques, procedures, and equipment specifications. Successful candidates are able to work both independently and with a team. Experience with industry standards for instrumentation and electrical systems is essential. Assignments are designed to further develop the candidate's knowledge and abilities.

  • Develops AutoCAD drawings from design sketches or vendor drawings and modifies existing CAD drawings.
  • Prepares construction documentation and drawings from scratch, sketches, or verbal instruction utilizing manual or computer-assisted drafting/design techniques.
  • Performs field verification to develop and confirm design package accuracy.
  • Performs related fundamental departmental support tasks such as updating computer lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, making simple calculations, proofreading reports, compiling Bills of Material, specifying equipment, etc.
  • Utilize information from vendor prints, catalogs, technical manuals, company standards, and industry standards.
  • Work products are readable and include all pertinent information, notes and job number. All material is signed and dated with job number.
  • Keeps supervisor and project lead informed of progress.
  • Supports field assignments as required.

The successful candidate will need time management skills to efficiently and satisfactorily complete work assignments. Awareness of safety needs and considerations should be evident through both daily activities and in work products. The candidate shall be able to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders via face to face discussions and email. The candidate must have the ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Direct knowledge of different instrumentation types, basic electrical systems, materials, devices, and technologies.
  • Familiar with basic measurement technologies for Level, Pressure, and Temperature devices.
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Code and ISA standards.
  • Experience in developing field sketches and field wiring schematics to accurately redraw in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to identify instrumentation and electrical equipment in the field.
  • Ability to follow, modify, and develop flow diagrams, P&ID's, electrical schematics, and other drawings to create a functional design.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and problem solving to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
  • Drafting installation details for: motor control center single lines, electric room layouts, motor control elementary diagrams, connection diagrams, cable schedules, cable routing plans, control panel layouts, grounding (equipment and system), lighting, instrumentation loop sheets, instrumentation installation, and control system diagrams.
  • Perform in-the-field surveys, inspections, field reviews, and follow project execution.
  • Communicate with suppliers and contractors in both verbal and written formats.

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Basic drafting technology from a vocational technology or other applicable program.
  • Minimum of 5-9 years of technical work experience. As an alternative, a minimum of an Associate or Bachelor's Degree program for the relevant discipline and relevant experience in that discipline.
