This role will assist BMI's Import Export Manager in handling the daily transactional activities that relate to supporting BMI's import compliance program.
Areas of support include import-related customs compliance initiatives, which include the areas of customs entry operations, broker management, HTS classification, country of origin determination, valuation, trade programs, recordkeeping, and internal auditing.
This involves various facets of import regulatory compliance; working closely with our US-based importing sites including the Corporate location and customs brokers to clear goods into the US.
• Oversee the daily operations of all US import-related tasks providing import clearance instructions to US customs brokers including areas such as US HTS 9801/9802, FTA's (NAFTA), and Valuation (Transaction Value, Related-Party, Assists)

• Conduct US Free Trade Agreement (FTA) program qualification and recordkeeping activities ensuring records pertaining to the FTA import claims are maintained and filed in a timely and orderly manner as well as preparation of NAFTA and other trade agreement certifications as needed for BMI's maquiladora operations

• Update required Trade Data (HTS, Origin, NAFTA, etc.) as directed by Trade Compliance staff in the LX system

• Manage import recordkeeping process in compliance with guidelines set forth by CBP and BMI corporate policy

• Assist Finance in the audit of BMI imports

• Review and audit all invoices related to entry filings (US and NRI), import freight, import entry charges, etc.

• Interface with custom brokers and internal and external customers on matters pertaining to customs and import regulations

Background
• Associate's degree preferred but not required
• Ideally 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in importing including tariff classification, origin, valuation and Free Trade Agreements (NAFTA) determination
• Knowledge of US Customs Harmonized Tariff Schedule, General Rules of Interpretation, Explanatory Notes, and Government Agency Import regulations (i.e. CBP) preferred but not required
• Ability to work within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask, prioritize and be adaptable.
• Solid communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
