Lead Responsible Sourcing Manager
Duration: 6+ Months contract with possibility of extension or FTE
Location: Battle Creek, MI 49017 (Fully remote role)
Work hours: 8-5 M-F
Job Description:
- Lead Responsible Sourcing Manager Responsible Sourcing is the selection of partnerships, programs and purchased materials that reduce environmental impact, protect human rights, and support farmer livelihoods through a combination of certification, direct investment, and continuous improvement at farm level.
- As the Lead Responsible Sourcing Manager, you will use advanced collaboration and organizational skills to support our Global Procurement and Sustainability departments.

Location:
- As part of our "Locate for Your Day” policy, you may have some travel to our Battle Creek, MI office.
Here's a taste of what you'll be doing:
- You will recommend implementing and managing procurement sustainability programs and initiatives, driving our strategy and achieving the scope of commitments in this space.
- Working closely with KNA procurement and global sustainability teams, you will provide insight and influence on Responsible Sourcing and Energy category strategies in support of Supply Chain, Procurement, and Sustainability policies and goals.
- You will maintain relationships with many external and internal stakeholders, including NGOs, industry groups, RQNT marketing, sales, and communications, leading technical expertise to ensure responsible sourcing criteria is accurately reported and supports North America program outcomes.
- You will be champion and lead execution throughout our KNA supply chain, supporting farmers & advancing sustainable agriculture, ultimately improving financial resiliency of farmers (i.e. productivity, cost reduction, revenue) with a myriad of environmental outcomes (i.e. soil health, biodiversity).
- You will ensure Responsible Sourcing of Our Priority Ingredients and evolving RS metrics for North America through participation in category strategy and supplier selection processes/ evaluations and working with in-scope suppliers to achieve companies' requirements across commodities.
- Our partners are extensions of the company's family and name; you will manage these supplier relationships, working directly with sustainability counterparts to gain alignment and progress on the companies' sustainability agenda.
- You will support conservation of natural resources within our North American supply chain, aligned to companies' policies and targets (i.e. GHG emissions, renewable electricity, water, waste, packaging, climate, deforestation)
- You will progress practices for operating ethically & protecting human rights, partnering with companies' ethics and compliance department.
- You will support mitigation of potential human rights risks and remediation of issues associated with our salient human rights.
- You will support farmer-facing commercial activations & communications, including claims.
- Support decision-making for action and inaction leading understanding of program potential, resources needed, external landscape and expectations.
- You will drive global execution alignment and next generation thinking within the Responsible Sourcing team, acting as champion for work processes, communication best practices, and continuous education.
- You will facilitate sharing knowledge amongst subject matter experts across regions.
- You will support the global Sustainability team in responding to public and private commentary and commodity data or reporting requests by revisiting priorities as new information and risk presents itself and facilitating global data collection processes/ formats and alignment.
- You will work with close suppliers to provide understanding and support execution of requirements, including code of conduct assessments, use of SEDEX, Grower Survey implementation and more.
- You will connect with external peers and relationships for benchmarking.
Skills Required:
- Sustainability and Environmental Knowledge
- Expertise in sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
- Familiarity with metrics related to GHG emissions, renewable energy, water, waste, and deforestation.
Stakeholder and Supplier Management:
- Ability to manage relationships with NGOs, industry groups, and internal teams like marketing and sales.
- Proficiency in supplier evaluation and compliance with sourcing requirements.
Project Management:
- Strong skills in leading sustainability programs.
- Capacity to balance multiple projects and align them with long-term sustainability strategies.
Data Reporting and Analysis:
- Experience in collecting and analyzing data for public and private reporting.
- Knowledge of tools like SEDEX and grower surveys.
Ethics and Compliance:
- Understanding of human rights practices and risk mitigation strategies.
Communication and Education:
- Strong communication skills for stakeholder advocacy and education.
- Ability to share knowledge and align global teams on sustainability practices.
Experience Required:
- 5-7 years related experience with master's degree; 7-10 years related experience if undergraduate.
- The ideal candidate will have experience in procurement and/or the sustainability function in the consumer goods industry, preferably in food or agriculture.
- They should have a strong understanding of how a procurement organization runs.
- They should also be familiar with greenhouse gas protocol, decarbonization, and net zero goals.
- There are many programs that will be kicking off in 2025, this individual will need to ensure contracts that have been executed are being implemented and delivered upon.
- They will also keep track of global goals and scorecards, create the agenda for bi-monthly team meetings, and manage the calendar for ongoing deadlines and milestones.
- Program Management experience will be a bonus.
Education Required :
- The ideal candidate has at least a Master's Degree in a field related to Agriculture, Sustainability, or Economics.
- MBAs may be acceptable depending on the candidate's experience.
Additional Information:
- Standard 40 hours per week.
- Must be able to work Eastern Time Zone hours and adjust to global time zones as needed.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal domestic travel, approximately 2-3 times per year.
- Required travel to the Battle Creek, MI office.
Location:
- Fully remote role.
- Candidates can be located anywhere in the USA.
- Bonus preference for candidates based in Chicago or Battle Creek, MI.
