Qualifications:

· 3+ more years as a Physician/Practitioner, autonomous preferred

· Strong experience working with patients having Serious Mental Illness (SMI)

· Psychiatric Crisis Management and Forensic experience, a plus

· Experience working with adult admissions or geriatric admissions and acute and chronic health management of adult and geriatric populations.

· Comfortable working on admissions work up and potential rapid turnover

· Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary treatment team

· BLS Healthcare Provider certification is required

Position Details:

· Facility Hospitalizations: Acute, Adult, Inpatient wards (male & female)

· Facility Demographics: Forensic, NGRI, Civil, Jail Transfer, and Geriatric populations

· Facility Stay: Short and Long-term length of stay

o Caseload varies by ward and assignment (40-45)

· Psychiatry coverage is provided

· Full complement of interdisciplinary team members

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

· Responsible for patient care that includes examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of medical illnesses for adult and geriatric psychiatric inpatient population.

· Serves as medical consultant to the attending psychiatrist/practitioner.

· Completes admission medical assessments (including history and physical examinations, mental status examination) and entering admission orders.

· Orders diagnostic/therapeutic tests and procedures.

· Monitors patients' progress, including laboratory values and special procedures with appropriate follow-up or referrals as needed.

· Consults with authorized representatives/legal guardians on patient medical status.

· Collaborates with attending psychiatric practitioner if needed providing DSM-5 Diagnoses that are valid, complete, and supported by timely and appropriate assessment.

· Provides coverage to the medical clinic, the admission suit to ensure the admission process is completed.

· Prescribes medications at the lowest effective dose in accordance with rational clinical practices. Assesses and address medication side-effects and report adverse drug reactions.

· Ensures timely and quality documentation (admissions, follow-up and annual, etc.) in patient records in accordance with policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines.
