Position Overview:
The Nurse Manager – Operating Room is responsible for overseeing the clinical, operational, financial, and personnel management of the Operating Room department. This leadership role ensures delivery of high-quality, patient-centered surgical care while supporting staff development, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives within the perioperative services department.
Job duties:
- Provide operational and clinical leadership for the Operating Room department and perioperative staff.
- Manage daily unit operations including staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Oversee patient care delivery to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical services.
- Supervise, mentor, evaluate, and support nursing staff, educators, and ancillary personnel.
- Coordinate recruitment, orientation, competency validation, performance evaluations, and staff development initiatives.
- Monitor patient satisfaction metrics, nurse-sensitive indicators, and quality improvement data to develop corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve workflow, patient outcomes, and operational performance.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, DNV standards, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based nursing practices.
- Lead staff meetings, shared governance initiatives, and departmental performance improvement activities.
- Serve as a clinical resource, mentor, and leadership role model for perioperative nursing staff.
- Assist with policy development, implementation of standards of care, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Maintain clinical expertise and support continuing education and professional development within the department.
Requirements:
Licensure: Current Registered Nurse License in the State of New York
Experience: Minimum 3 years Operating Room experience required; 5 years preferred. Previous nursing management experience preferred.
Certifications: BLS required; ACLS
Education: Master's Degree in Nursing or related field.
Other Requirements: Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and operational management skills required. Knowledge of regulatory compliance, quality improvement, budgeting, and performance management preferred.
