Shift: 5x8-Hour Evening/Night Shift (4:00 PM – 12:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 40 Hours
Guaranteed Hours: Dependent on facility requirements

Job Duties:

Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and the Mental Health Unit Chief, the Mental Health Clinician will provide mental health care to incarcerated adult men who require or request services. Responsibilities include conducting mental health evaluations, crisis intervention, assessments, and follow-up care. The clinician will determine and coordinate patient disposition for the appropriate level of mental health care and coordinate discharge planning services with Reentry Social Workers.

Additional responsibilities include completing required statistical reports, collaborating with the Department of Correction to ensure access to patients, proper housing, and treatment disposition, and coordinating patient care with other institutional programs. The clinician will develop and lead group treatment sessions on mental health observation units and other assigned units.

The role also requires completion of all required documentation, participation in weekly clinical supervision with the Clinical Supervisor, and participation in mental health and medical rounds as assigned. The clinician will attend case conferences and assist in treatment planning for patients receiving or being considered for mental health treatment. Duties may also include conducting psychological testing when assigned and supervising social work interns or student volunteers if required. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Unit Chief, Assistant Unit Chief, or Clinical Supervisor.

Required Skills:

Preference will be given to candidates with experience conducting assessments and providing treatment to adults with behavioral issues, substance use histories, and severe mental illness. Candidates with inpatient or related experience are strongly preferred.

Education and Licensure Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Active New York State license in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology.

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidates must have experience diagnosing patients.
  • Candidates must be local to the area.
  • Selected candidates will be required to complete PREA and DOC clearance with the client directly.

Shift Time:

  • 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM.
