Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Interventional Radiology Technologist specializes in assisting with minimally invasive, image-guided procedures. This role involves patient preparation, sterile technique, equipment operation, and collaboration with the clinical team to ensure high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes.

Explain procedures to patients and ensure proper preparation

Obtain and review relevant patient medical history and clinical data

Prepare and manage contrast media, medications, and IV solutions

Set up procedure rooms, imaging equipment, and sterile supplies

Assist the Radiologist during complex interventional procedures

Operate imaging equipment to obtain accurate diagnostic images

Maintain sterile fields and adhere to infection control protocols

Monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures

Apply radiation safety and ALARA principles

Ensure adequate stocking and replenishment of procedural supplies

Resolve imaging exceptions and ensure proper image transfer to PACS

Complete study documentation and workflow tasks within RIS

Perform Quality Assurance activities as required

Support training of new staff or students when assigned

Maintain accurate clinical and billing-related documentation

Exercise independent judgment in imaging techniques, positioning, and safety practices
