Overview:
MGIC Investment Corporation is undergoing a critical enterprise-wide migration from Oracle Database to Nutanix NDB (formerly Era). We are seeking an experienced Oracle DBA to lead and execute this transition plan. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with both Oracle and Nutanix NDB platforms, with the ability to challenge the status quo and drive meaningful improvements under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute a pre-defined migration plan transitioning from Oracle DB to Nutanix NDB.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and third-party service providers to ensure timely execution and resolution of issues.
  • Build and configure Nutanix NDB environments and ensure optimal integration with Oracle workloads.
  • Drive automation, backup strategies, and DR implementation aligned with Nutanix architecture.
  • Troubleshoot issues proactively, communicate effectively, and offer solutions to get the project back on schedule.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure business continuity throughout the migration.


Required Skills & Experience:
1. Oracle DBA Expertise:
  • Deep knowledge of Oracle 12c/19c/21c including ASM, RAC, Data Guard.
  • Proficient in ODA (Oracle Database Appliance): ODA CLI, Appliance Manager, storage layout, patching, HA.
  • Skilled in RMAN, Data Pump, Flashback, and transportable tablespaces.
2. Oracle Migration Experience:
  • Proven experience with both physical (cold/hot backups) and logical (Data Pump, GoldenGate) migrations.
  • Familiarity with multitenant architecture and PDB migration strategies.
3. Nutanix NDB (Era) Proficiency:
  • Hands-on with provisioning, cloning, patching, and backup operations in Nutanix NDB.
  • Strong grasp of NDB profiles, blueprints, automation workflows, and REST API usage.
  • Understanding of Nutanix HCI architecture, AHV/ESXi integration, vDisks, containers, and snapshots.
4. Linux & Virtualization:
  • Advanced Linux system administration (RHEL, Oracle Linux).
  • Filesystem management (xfs/ext4), kernel tuning, NUMA, ulimits.
  • Experience with hypervisors such as AHV and VMware vSphere.
5. Backup/DR Strategy Development:
  • Ability to design and validate backup and DR strategies using Nutanix-integrated RMAN, replication tools, and third-party solutions (e.g., Rubrik, Commvault).
6. Automation & Scripting:
  • Proficiency in Bash, Python, or PowerShell for scripting and automation.
  • Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or similar IaC tools is a plus.

  • Proactive, vocal, and not afraid to challenge inefficient processes.
  • Comfortable leading execution in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
  • Ability to coordinate with and elevate managed service provider teams.
