The Technical Support Engineer II – Protection: Provides consulting and technical support to Clients who lease and/or own F-series test equipment. This role provides technical expertise on Doble protection hardware and software, testing of relays and protection schemes, and training. The Technical Support Engineer II may publish technical articles and participate in various technical conferences sponsored by Doble and other industry organizations.

Essential Job Functions
• Provides technical support, and training on the operation and application of Protection hardware and software to lease clients.
• Provides end-user hardware trouble shooting for off-site customers.
• Provides technical support to Doble customers/clients via email, telephone, and web-based solutions.
• Prepares test plans for various models of protection, meter, transducer and control devices and systems for use in various Doble software applications. This includes the use of worksheets and programming scripts to make them reusable and automated.
• Delivers training to customers/clients on testing techniques and applications of Doble Protection hardware and software solutions. 25% travel
• Writes technical papers, application notes, guides on topics related to Doble products and services and presents them at Doble conferences and other technical conferences.
• Assists in providing technical expertise for Doble research and development projects.
• Supports other engineers and coordinators with technical expertise within the department and other departments within the company.
• Reports existing issues via established software bug-logging system and more comprehensive Doble-wide system and provides customer issue resolution to bug related issues with existing products.
• Serves in a train-the-trainer role internally for other Doble employees to understand various products.
• Continuously works to upgrade skills concerning computers, software, test theory, test equipment operation, apparatus operation and training presentations
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.



Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Power and Energy Engineering; Master's Degree a plus. Additional work experience in the field of electric power engineering may be considered in lieu of applicable degree.


• 5+ years of experience in protective relay testing is required.
• The desire and ability to build technical relationships with a core group of assigned customers/clients.
• Ability to test all types of devices from simple electromechanical relays, meters, transducers and control devices to complex numerical multifunction protection and automation devices and systems.
• Good understanding of different application protection and control schemes and practices and ability to understand and draw schematic diagrams
• Hands-on experience in testing as well as diagnostics of the protection and control schemes in the field as well as in the laboratory environment.
• A solid history of commitment to customer service.
• The ability to teach and relate ideas or concepts to individuals with varied levels of experience.
• The ability to express ideas clearly in written, oral and developing new media communications.
• Excellent time management skills.
• A professional demeanor at all times with all stakeholders, both internal and external to Doble.
• Demonstrated superior skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).
• Proven project management skills and ability to meet critical deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
• A valid passport and be able to obtain a valid Visa to any country required for Doble field work.
• Domestic and international travel, including air travel, required (up to 25%); this level can vary throughout the year due to customer demand.
• Must be fluent English, both oral and written form.

• Working knowledge of Doble Protection hardware and software solutions including F6150, ProTest, & Protection Suite is a plus.
• Worked for a Utility Systems company is helpful.
• Additional language skills such as Spanish and/or Portuguese is a plus
• Familiarity with ENOSERV RTS and Powerbase is a plus.
• Familiarity with MS Dynamics NAV ERP system a plus

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand for extended periods of time, bend, sit, climb stairs, walk, utilize oral and written communication to interact with co-workers, perform manual tasks which require arm strength and dexterity. The employee may need to travel by air up to 8 hours at one time. The employee will work around High Voltage equipment. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
