Systems Administrator (L2 System Admin/Desktop)

We are seeking an experienced System Administrator (L2) to join our team. This position includes but is not limited to: configuring and deploying Linux and Windows servers, managing virtual environments, desktop support, and monitoring day to day IT issues. The ideal candidate has at least 2 – 4 years of experience working on similar projects or has successfully completed a BS in Computer Science.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • IT issue triage. Review issues and service requests daily, prioritize based on need, and lead to issue resolution
  • Resolves problems by clarifying issues; researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions; implementing solutions; escalating unresolved problems
  • Support the enterprise and other department initiatives by identifying technology solutions to meet the business needs
  • Periodic Server/hardware maintenance (patches, antivirus, firmware updates, etc.)
  • Support the development team: environment migration, production deployment, and general troubleshooting
  • Managing backups for Postgres, MySQL, and SQL Servers
  • Access control and permissions to various systems and services
  • Monitoring load and provisioning resources to accommodate spikes in traffic
  • Monitoring logs and preventing APT's and attempts to breach systems
  • Implementing services
  • Periodic on-call for system outages or failures
  • Desktop support for savvy users
  • Account and Active Directory management
  • Asset management – cataloging and maintaining
  • Routine maintenance, updates, and procurement
Required skills and experience
  • BS or related degree in Computer Science field
  • Intermediate to advance level of knowledge in installing, configuring, and supporting Microsoft server operating systems including Windows
  • Server 2012 and 2016. This would also include Linux OS experience
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in Linux operating systems and comfortable with open source technologies: Debian Jessie/Stretch and Ubuntu 16 LTS/17
  • Intermediate level of knowledge in virtual environment and configuration
  • Intermediate to advance level of knowledge in installing, configuring, and supporting desktop class operating systems including Windows 7/8/10 and Mac operating systems
  • Expert level of knowledge in installing, configuring and supporting desktop applications including Microsoft products, O365, hosted file storage, IE, Chrome, and common antivirus applications and desktop
  • Intermediate level knowledge of TCP/IP, sub netting, routing, switching, VLANs, firewall and VPN tunnels
  • Active Directory Administration
  • Database administration and server: SQL and MySQL
  • Secure administration and access control
  • SSH key management and deployment
  • Log file security reviews
  • Building, testing, and deploying chef cookbook files. Knowledge in MDT tools is a plus
  • Beginning to intermediate level of knowledge for storage related technologies in including iSCSI storage systems
  • Knowledge in Powershell, bash scripting, and batch files
  • Knowledge and general application of best practices such as ITIL, SDLC, and Agile/SCRUM
  • Must be organized and be able to lead projects through planning, facilitating, gathering requirements, construction, and to completion
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team and management
  • Microsoft certifications associated with degrees of knowledge is a plus, but not required
