Job Title: Remote HIM Inpatient Coding Auditor

The Facility Coding Auditor is an exempt, full-time remote position.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Performs analysis of medical records and provider claims to validate appropriate DRG and ICD-10 code assignment
  • Ensures that assigned codes and DRG are supported by clinical documentation
  • Applies Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting consistently and appropriately
  • Provides written explanations to support or rebut coding recommendations
  • Identifies trends and educational opportunities and assists with training.
  • Prepares and presents educational programs related to coding.
  • Assists with other audits as requested.
  • Serves as a knowledge expert and maintains up-to-date working knowledge of coding guidelines in order to act as resource and point person for issues and question for coders, customers, project teams and committees.

Qualifications:
  • 3 or more years of Inpatient/DRG auditing experience in an acute care setting.
  • Expertise in IPPS/MS-DRG and APR-DRG methodology and logic
  • Excellent knowledge of Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, AHA Coding Clinics to support audit findings
  • Outstanding computer skills (audit software, excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to efficiently review large volumes of documents with high comprehension level
  • Secure home office environment, compliant with HIPAA

Licensure & Certification
  • RHIT or RHIA preferred
  • CCS certification is required
  • H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent required
Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of personal computers.
  • Knowledge of documentation regulations of Joint Commission and CMS.
  • Must be able to demonstrate time management, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong skills in diplomacy, professionalism and trustworthiness.
  • Ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients, the confidentiality of health system and patient documents required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with patients, physicians, contractors, health system officials, other health system personnel and the general public is essential.
  • You are passionate about the health information profession.
  • Must have HIM AUDITOR experience.
