Sr. Business Intelligence Data Architect - Portland

Location: Portland, ME, Maine
A member of the BI Architecture team, the Senior BI Data Architect s responsible for the architecture, design, development, and maintenance of the data warehouse; data marts, staging and archival databases through the life cycle: from business requirements to development of logical design, translation to physical design, ETL architecture and code development, and on through implementation and maintenance. This position reports to the Manager, BI Architecture.

Key Outcomes
  • Establishes best practices for BI solutions and ensures that they are being effectively applied
  • Work as technical lead for cross-departmental, multi-platform database development projects
  • Architect, design and develop enterprise data warehouse, data mart, operational and other miscellaneous components required for BI applications using stored procedures, functions, views, and other ETL Tools as appropriate.
  • Design, develop and implement conceptual data models for BI solutions
  • Lead development teams in the design of database solutions. Work with business owners and business users to understand and translate user requirements into practical data models
  • Makes and maintains recommendations for architecture solutions that support business and technical requirements and that provide for scalability within budgetary constraints, availability of data and resources.
  • Design, develop and deploy back-end systems to support operational and analytical reporting
  • Perform peer review of BI architecture solutions
§ Troubleshoot programmed code and p rovide timely resolution and solutions.
§ Optimize programmed code for best possible speed and performance
  • Create and maintain documentation of processes, reports, applications, and procedures
  • Manage the data warehouse loads and other processes and respond to critical data warehouse issues during off hours.
  • Provides oversight and mentoring of other members of the team

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, management systems or related discipline
  • At least five years experience in data warehousing, including extensive experience working with ETL processes, OLAP structures, SQL coding and dimensional modeling
  • At least five years experience in health care industry, from payer or provider perspective

  • Proven experience building data warehouses and maintaining SQL Server databases
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
  • Advanced SQL query techniques and automating import/export tasks, complex data analysis and data quality assurance
  • Ability to proactively identify, troubleshoot and resolve complex data integrity issues
  • Skilled in T-SQL programming with SQL Server 2008 and SSIS
  • Experience with metadata management concepts, change management/version control concepts
  • Familiarity with formal process improvement methodologies
  • Formal data modeling experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and communicate requirements

Must have a Bachelors degree. Must have 5+years of data warehousing experience, specifically with ETL processes, OLAP structures, SQL coding and dimensional modeling. Must have good communication skills- will be interacting with multiple people within the organization and will need to explain the complex data in simple terms to them. Healthcare experience is required
