Mainframe Communications Senior System Programmer

The mainframe communications system programmer is responsible for all network software and supporting components. This includes VTAM, TCP/IP , FTP, Connect Direct, Netview, CA-TPX. Tasks include day to day network support, resolving issues that arise with performance , problems and operations. Job responsibilities include working closely with all areas on the mainframe as well as other platforms that interface with the mainframe. Resolve problems by determining cause; provide technical assistance to applications and other support staff. Implement and integrate new hardware into the existing mainframe infrastructure. Create and implement mainframe administration procedures, standards to meet the business needs. Participate and coordinate efforts to facilitate successful disaster recovery testing successful disaster recovery testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Install, customize, test, and implement z/OS network software and ISV software
  • Provide implementation and support for parallel sysplex, multi-lpar environment
  • Problem management/incident management – perform root cause analysis and identify resolution
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance of system resources, controls, definitions and configuration
  • Analyze requirements and recommend software and hardware solutions
  • Provide technical assistance to programming and operations staff
  • Develop and maintain business continuity plans and contingencies for disaster recovery
  • Function well in large-scale, complex, cross-functional / platform environment
  • Solid individual performance while also providing direction for others
  • Share knowledge, coach and mentor others in area of expertise
  • Responsible for delivery and success of assigned projects. Optimizes results within business and time constraints
  • Work on special projects as assigned
  • Provide on-call support, coverage to solve technical problems 7x24x365
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10 years experience with strong systems programmer background in z/OS, VTAM, TCP/IP network performance and tuning
  • Expert knowledge of large IBM system network hardware and software, ISV software
  • Knowledge of mainframe systems software and components (JES2, RACF, USS, SMF, RMF, Exits, WLM, etc)
  • Knowledge of large IBM systems hardware architecture (HCD/IODF), GDPS Global Metro mirror, Hyperswap
  • Experience with IBM's ISPF, JCL, SDSF, CLISTs, REXX execs
  • Knowledge of CICS and DB2 systems is beneficial
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward project completion
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate business requirements
