Manager, Domestic Tax

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Domestic Tax Manager to join our Global Finance Organization at Monsanto. This is a great opportunity to join a team that is committed to utilizing an integrated, value-added approach across the tax life cycle. Tax professionals at Monsanto develop a depth of knowledge and gain a comprehensive perspective of the entire business enabling a proactive, forward-looking approach for Tax. This role is part of our global Tax team within Finance and will have a strong relationship and exposure with the Domestic Tax management team, Controllership, cross-functional project teams and external auditors.
Key responsibilities:
  • Manage all phases of the state income and franchise tax compliance life cycle including preparation of the state income tax provision under ASC 740, estimated tax and extension processes and state/local income and franchise tax return filings
  • Manage the inventory of state uncertain tax positions under FIN 48 and related quarterly analysis
  • Support tax controversy activities by overseeing the compilation and direction of responses to state audit inquiries
  • Provide analytical support with regard to the state income tax implications of acquisition, divestiture and planning activities
  • Oversee the timely responses to state tax notices and other correspondence
  • Participation in ongoing tax systems and process re-design projects to further enhance process efficiencies
Qualifications:
Required skills/experience:
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field of study
  • 6+ years experience in public accounting or with a large corporate multi-state income tax practice with demonstrated consolidated state income tax return experience
  • Strong state tax technical knowledge and the ability to evaluate, analyze and conclude on complex state tax positions
  • Team player with strong analytical and organizational skills and desire to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Self-motivated individual with ability to manage multiple tasks independently with results orientation
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Willingness and ability to learn new concepts and/or processes; good investigation skills
  • Strong computer and system skills (Microsoft Office products)
Desired skills/experience:
  • MST or CPA
  • Big 4 public accounting experience desirable and multinational experience
  • Direct, hands-on experience with Thomson suite of tax software products, specifically Onesource Income Tax, Onesource State Apportionment, Onesource Tax Provision and supporting Active Workpaper functionality
  • SAP experience
