Java Web Application Architect

The Application Architect uses specialized depth and experience to oversee the design of Java Web based architecture for B2C Web/Mobile, Front End Pharmacy and Contact Systems. Leads work groups that are responsible for software development, design and quality testing. This position will create detailed specifications or designs, conduct quality assurance reviews of peer's application programming and act as a mentor to others in these programs. This position is competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of application programming activities.


Partner with multiple vendors/business owners to create estimates and delivery plans for projects or programs across an application family.
Ensure quality of technology delivery of multiple vendors' technology solutions for multiple concurrent projects or programs for an application family.
Provide technology leadership and delivery accountability for solutions for multiple concurrent projects within an application family.
Function as team leader for a large or complex unit with accountability for: Setting direction to mature the technology associated with the team.
Identify and implement process enhancement opportunities associated with supporting the application area.
Serve as SME for components of the team. Partner with architects to set direction for maturing use of/retiring/adding technology components in the Client environment.
Provide technical guidance to projects/programs for complex components of a multiple technology suites
Lead teams to resolve urgent and high production incidents.
Lead actions to determine root cause of problems and drive resolution.
Work on special projects as assigned.
Participate in cross-functional work groups to assess business needs, develop a systems architecture strategy, and implementation plans. Determine feasibility, cost and time required, compatibility with current system, and system capabilities.
Analyze, design and implement system architecture. Independently formulates detailed program specifications using structured analysis and design. Write documentation describing systems architecture, logic, coding, and corrections. May develop user manuals and operating procedures.
Formulates and recommends standards for achieving maximum performance and efficiency of systems. Participates in the planning for retirement of systems programs, and migration of systems infrastructure.
Provide assistance to IS team members with issues needing technical expertise or complex systems and/or programming knowledge. Provide on-the-job training for new or less experienced team members.
Spearheads the development, implementation and communications of architecture roadmap strategies to ensure that systems are scalable, reliable, secure, supportable, and achieve Business and IT performance and budgetary objectives.
Leads cross-functional teams that design, develop, and implement systems architecture and supporting infrastructure.
Responsible for achieving financial objectives of approved systems plans.

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience
8-12 years relevant experience
Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field
Knowledge of current technologies including Open Source, J2EE (JSP, Servlet, JSP, etc.), web application development, web services (REST/SOAP/XML), Rich Internet Applications, messaging infrastructures and databases.
Ability to provide and implement technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems

Ability to lead discussions with all levels of the organization and provide balanced information of an idea or communication of an issue regardless of written or verbal
