Job Summary: Systems Engineer - Mid Level
Major Responsibilities: Completes the design of complex systems that integrate hardware and software. Completes complex
material specification, schematic preparation and appropriate follow-up. Completes recommendations
for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction.
Performs complex technical interchange and knowledge transfer for both processes and application of
products to system design.
Independently performs full range of standard work for the professional field. Refers complex, unusual
problems to others. Identifies and resolves more complex problems and applies problem-solving skills
in order to deal with most situations.
Education/Experience/Licenses etc.: BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of
education and experience. Certification may be required in some areas.
Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of field of specialization through successful
completion of moderately complex assignments. Successfully applies complex knowledge of
fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization.
Demonstrates knowledge of organization's business practices and issues.
Typically 5-8 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key
Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above. Advanced degree MAY be substituted for
experience, where applicable.
Manager's Comments: Systems Engineers will be required to participate in design, development, programming, testing, and commissioning of material handling systems. Engineers will also assist in the creation of accurate bid and proposal documents.
Typical activities include:
o Electrical schematic and panel design (Control Panels, Motor Control Panels, Motor Control Centers, Power Distribution) using AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN 8
o Network design using Profinet, Profibus, ASI Bus, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP
o Programmable Logic Controller architecture design and programming
o Human-Machine Interface programming
o Writing project documentation (Test plans, Descriptions of Operation)
o Management of project time, budget, and resources
Position Skills and Qualifications
o Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Electrical/Controls/Automation/Robotics Engineering or Technology or equivalent experience.
o Fluent in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Windows operating systems.
o Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal
o Willingness to travel 40-60% of the time.
o Current experience with Allen-Bradley PLC languages, architecture and networks. Other platforms a plus.
o Project management experience desired.
o Experience with conveyor systems (Parcel, Baggage, ASRS, Etc.), large machine design, and/or motor control desired.
o Ability to work as part of a team, yet independently if necessary, especially away from the office.
