Reports to: Manager, Corporate Accounting
Purpose: Preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and various account analyses in support of the General Accounting function at NRG Energy


Responsibilities:

• Responsible for accounting, recording, reporting and coordinating with others for common transactions and shared processes across all NRG entities such as insurance, vendor/consultant accruals, cash clearing accounts, other assets/liabilities, telecommunication/wireless allocations, Pcard allocation, etc.
• Responsible for all aspects of accounting, recording, reporting and coordinating with others for NRG corporate programs
• Preparation of related account reconciliations, including multiple bank reconciliations in accordance with company policy.
• Preparation of various consolidating analysis in support of Management and Financial Reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis
• Responsible for responding to questions from regional accountants, external auditors, and internal auditors
• Able to perform research within the general ledger and work with IT regarding the flow of transactions
• Perform limited analysis and gain understanding of variances for designated areas of responsibility
• Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
• Assist with special projects as requested.
• Assist with Sarbanes Oxley testing.

Qualifications:

MUST have a minimum of 3 years experience

• Bachelor’s degree with in accounting with experience in general accounting and/or financial reporting with an emphasis on multiple company structure
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Good working knowledge of US GAAP.
• Knowledge of accounting software, specifically SAP and HFM/Hyperion preferred.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite in particular Excel
• Proven attention to detail; demonstrated organizational and problem solving skills.
• Ability to create and work with spreadsheets and/or databases.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to set priorities and respond to changing demands from multiple sources.
