Quality & Continuous Improvement Engineer- South Gate, CA

Armstrong Flooring, Inc. (AFI) has an opportunity for a Plant Quality Manager located at our South Gate, CA facility. Working under the general direction of the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for the effective management and coordination of all aspects of Quality and Process support to production. Supports plant efficiency and profitability by reducing waste through application of lean principles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides direction on quality testing process, specification, quality claim investigation and response
  • Coordinates the efforts of process support personnel to investigate, solve and improve production related process and quality problems
  • Leads plant activities to support design of new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures
  • Provides engineering, technical solutions and training that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts
  • Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects within the quality scope
  • Confers with plant leadership and production staff to determine engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness of quality initiatives
  • Advises plant leadership on quality related developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations
  • Transfers knowledge of technical processes to production employees
  • Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly
  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner
  • Drives CAPEX projects that are in the quality scope (CAT-II)
  • Develop solid working relationships with CIT, Corp. Quality, Product and Sales group

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization
  • Experience with Quality Systems and optimization in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of process improvement techniques, such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma
  • Must be able to complete the Ishihara test for color blindness and the Farnsworth-Munsell 100-hue color test as well as administer both tests to employees as required.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • Previous experience with Statistical Process Control and Team Facilitation
  • Experience with Minitab
  • Experience with a Customer Service or Customer Interaction
