Quality Engineer

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Quality Engineer is expected to work within cross-functional teams and/or individually to plan and implement improvements while continuing to collect data in order to prove project success.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Maintain and audit ISO 9001 documentation for manufacturing of SATCOM terminals and telecommunication equipment. Must be familiar with ISO 9001-2015 requirements.
  • Manage Quality Assurance documentation – Certificates of Compliance, Test Results, Sign-off Reviews, Material Review Board documentation, Cost Point Item Master and Bills of Material, Cost Point MRP support
  • Configuration Management – Supervise and act as SME for Configuration Management activities in the production group
  • Monitor quality records, reports, field failures and test results seeking continuous improvement.
  • Interface with Engineering, Program Management, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain and Maintenance to discover trends in poor quality or areas with significant improvement can be found.
  • Gather, complete, and properly store information and documentation to meet Comtech's Quality record requirements included but not limited to serial numbers, test results, signoff reviews, etc.
  • Responsible for providing Certificate of Compliance for product prior to shipment, including technical quality compliance and testing, shipment, proper function verification per predetermined standards.
  • Support the production team, ensuring products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system.
  • Participate and lead the Material Review Board process to assist resolution of any issues that resulted from nonconforming material.
  • Participate and/or lead cross-departmental meetings that are specifically in regard to Quality issues, and act as a representative for the Quality Department other types of meetings.
  • Participate and/or lead continuous improvement activities within the Quality department and with other departments to strengthen Comtech's Quality management system (QMS).
  • Assist in the solution of Quality-related problems resulting in the issuance of corrective actions reports, vendor corrective action reports and customer complaints with tools such as 8D, 5 whys, etc.
  • Act as a representative to suppliers and customers when required, supporting COMTECH's Quality Management System.
  • Responsible for continual improvement activities through an effective CAPA system to enhance the quality system, such as 5S, Kaizen lean methods, etc.
  • Provide guidance and direction as needed in support of a coherent team work environment complying Comtech's QMS. ​
SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with diverse audiences both internally and externally and foster strong teamwork.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, and as a member of a team environment
  • Detail-oriented, with strong analytical in a technical background.
  • Prefer experience with equipment related to networking, microwave, satellite, baseband and wireless equipment.
  • Prefer previous experience with quality management systems within a DoD manufacturing environment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree plus 2 years' experience in a technical manufacturing field, experience in DoD manufacturing highly desired.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, ability to program Microsoft Access Database for automated capture of quality required data and Excel Formulas and Pivot Tables.
  • Knowledge of standard quality and reliability tools such as FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis), Lean, Six Sigma, DOE, SPC and Process Mapping in an aerospace (preferably military defense) environment.
  • Experience in maintaining ISO certification through audits and ISO documentation.
  • Secret clearance preferred
