Echocardiography Technician - DH

Performs echocardiographic procedures of diagnostic value to be interpreted by cardiologists and/or other referring physicians. Reports to Cardiac Services Manager.

Performs all inpatient and outpatient two dimensional, Doppler, and M-mode echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms and peripheral vascular examinations on both adults and pediatric patients through all phases of their appropriate procedure.

Performs inpatient and outpatient resting echocardiograms in all ancillary mobile clinics served by the Arnot Health, Finger Lakes Heart Institute. This responsibility is shared with the other cardiac sonographers, as appropriate.

Achieves and maintains working knowledge and understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology.

Maintains adequate documentation and file system of all studies performed.

Leaves completed studies at the cardiologist reading station within a reasonable period of time after completion of the study. STAT and inpatient studies have priority to be read first.

Assists with scheduling all inpatient and outpatient echocardiograms: including patient name, inpatient or outpatient, date of test, interpreting cardiologist, referring physician, and reason for the study.

Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for daily use.

Performs minor equipment repairs and calibration, as appropriate.

Is responsible for aseptic technique, cleaning of room and equipment between patients when finished at end of day.

Assists physicians in performing sterile procedures as necessary.

Is responsible for "on-call" duty on a rotating basis. A telepager will be provided and he/she shall remain within 20-30 minute response time of the Arnot Health.

Will share responsibility for the training and orientation of additional sonographers or department staff, including PER DIEM sonographers.

Provides age appropriate care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.

Registry in Adult Echocardiography from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, or registry eligible. Graduate from an approved school is desirable.

Two years, whether registered or not registered. BLS certification required, ALS preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire date.

Appreciable physical effort or strain; occasionally repetitive efforts may involve lifting, pushing and pulling.
