Position Summary
The candidate must be an energetic, self-starter to perform Opto-manufacturing engineering for state of the art near eye imaging systems. Their primary focus will be the implementation and documentation of existing and new processes. The candidate will need to work within a multi-disciplinary environment to help test, manufacture, align, assemble, and document optical systems and components.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement, document, and develop processes for lean manufacturing of optical components and systems.
  • Evaluate and suggest recommendations on the manufacturing quality control processes, both incoming and in-situ.
  • Apply knowledge of product design to streamline manufacturing/inspection processes.
  • Solicit observations from operators and feed that information back into processes to improve safety, yields, and overall quality.
  • Develop training and safety programs.
  • Analyze the manufacturing methods, production processes and also the production schedule.
  • Communicate to management with statistical data to help clearly identify the future requirements of manufacturing.
  • Provide Engineering support including troubleshooting to manufacturing and production groups - from prototypes and proof of concepts to low volume (thousands) to higher volumes (100K+).
  • Design and implement production tooling and fixtures as well as perform some manufacturing engineering to transition new designs to Production and provide ongoing production support.
  • Understanding of engineering processes to act as a bridge between Optics, Manufacturing, and Quality Control.
  • Interface with domestic and foreign manufacturing partners.
Experience Required
  • Engineering Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with optical manufacturing methods.
  • Understanding of optical metrology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience.
  • 3D CAD modeling experience in Solid Works a plus.
  • Experience in ISO9001 environment a plus.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills; and the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to solve problems, multi-task and be a hands-on leader.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma best practices preferred.
