The Desktop Refresh program is an ongoing initiative within the Field Refresh program to maintain the health of the endpoint environment for all client lines of businesses, including desktops, laptops, thin clients and handheld tablet devices, in the US, Canada and Mexico. The project team consists of a program lead, four project managers and a team of coordinators, business analysts, technical writers, a technical lead, desktop engineers and desktop technicians.
The scope of the project includes solution engineering for workplace computing technology and services. The resulting service will enable:
• End user software self-service
• Automated user provisioning for applications, access and settings (user persona definition)
• An enterprise cloud file storage solution for end user data
• Streamlined endpoint imaging and configuration processes
The Desktop Refresh Technical Lead will be responsible for the development of a cohesive solution involving multiple technologies, and transitioning the solution into service. The ideal candidate should have experience developing solutions within the unified endpoint management, virtual desktop infrastructure, and end user computing spaces. Familiarity with ITIL framework is a plus; however, past IT service management engineering experience is acceptable.
The Technical Lead will be a dedicated member of the project team, and candidates must have experience working within a project team environment. Experience executing projects in a medium to large enterprise environment is preferred. The Technical Lead's efforts will be directed by a Project Manager, who will be responsible for managing the technical and solution engineering projects for the ongoing refresh initiatives in scope for 2018.
The Technical Lead should promote organizational strategic direction and develop all solutions within the framework of organizational and program guiding principles.
The Technical Lead will provide primary technical subject matter expertise in developing the solution.
Teamwork and transparency is required and well established within the current team, and ideal candidates will be collaborative in practice.
Candidates should value and demonstrate adherence to industry best practices and be prepared to elaborate on solutions they have developed and implemented in previous roles.
Areas of Responsibility
The Technical Lead will be responsible for developing a holistic solution that is aligned with existing organizational guiding principles and strategic direction. The Technical Lead must maintain alignment with the program and project managers while effectively communicating the project goals, scope and schedule to other technical contributors. The Technical Lead must view themselves as not only a project contributor, but as the owner of the solution. Skills/knowledge required: Ability to identify and escalate issues and risks appropriately, critical thinking, thought leadership
The Technical Lead will evaluate the objectives of the program and recommend the appropriate technical solutions. These recommendations will provide the basis for the project scope.
Expert judgement based on experience, knowledge of industry best practice. Some experience with the following tools and technology is preferred: Office365, SCCM, Azure, Ivanti DesktopNow, virtual desktop infrastructure, cloud application virtualization, workspace virtualization
Project Scope Decomposition and Estimation:
The Technical Lead will be responsible for participating in project scope decomposition sessions, led by a Project Manager, with internal project team members, external resources and technical SMEs. The Technical Lead will assist the Project Manager in defining the project work breakdown structure, and will provide the necessary information to further define the work to the task level. The Technical Lead must use expert judgment and knowledge of similar projects to estimate required resources and effort for the tasks. Skills/knowledge required: Expert judgement based on experience, knowledge of industry best practice, and experience working within a project team. The Technical Lead will be required to familiarize themselves with the scope of work to identify tasks/resources/durations within the project.
The Technical Lead will work in an office environment on weekdays with flexible 8AM to 5 PM hours and may travel once or more per quarter to develop field operations knowledge.
Technology: Client is a Microsoft shop and they have used MS toolset for their past desktop refresh activities.
