ABOUT THIS ROLE
Overview: The Beacon design system team creates digital tools and capabilities that are used to build and enhance marketing experiences for investors across ~25 Schwab websites. To ensure our digital solutions and assets are effective, we conduct testing and research to gather actionable user insights and data as part of our workflow before releasing a new or enhanced solution at scale across marketing channels. This UX Research role will play a critical lead role by defining our research and test roadmap for 2023 and executing those plans each quarter in collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
We anticipate running a continuous stream of tests, research studies or other experimentation to gain insights and data from system users and end users (clients and prospects) across key initiatives as part of an agile, sprint-based approach. We estimate a total of 5-10 research efforts each quarter in 2023. The solutions we’ll test and/or research will have an impact on business outcomes such as engagement, conversion and brand impression. This includes design system components, tools and capabilities to meet objectives such as
  • User Engagement & Conversion: motion and interactivity tactics (video, animation)
  • User Comprehension: components (marquees, panels, cards, decks) for marketing content strategies
  • User Flows: navigation and way finding
Role Description
This is a lead role that will own and drive the Beacon test and learning strategy, primarily qualitative and quantitative UX Research through UserZoom and A/B Testing using Optimizely leveraging data and insights from multiple sources such as Adobe Analytics and Content Management System (CMS) reporting. They will coordinate with our UX Designers and Developers as well as Business Stakeholders among other research and test teams as they develop strategic test/research plans, execute them and communicate actionable learnings and insights.
 
Responsibilities include owning and driving the Beacon learning strategy/agenda, creating hypothesis/plans, research and test execution, gathering data and analyzing results. Project management and cross team coordination. Consulting and knowledge sharing with the team, partners and stakeholders. While some studies and tests will take a full quarter, others will be rapid fire and scrappy to keep momentum and productivity with the team. Creative problem solving and a strategic mindset for gaining actionable results is critical in this role.
 
Key Deliverables: What you’ll be doing…
  • Create & Manage a 2023 Learning strategy and Quarterly test plan queue in alignment with our roadmap, OKRs and manage it ongoing to accommodate changes in business priorities and workflow capacity.
  • Own & Document Test/Research Plans: Work with each partner team and the Beacon team to identify candidate work, specify outcomes, hypotheses, and strategize which testing or research methodology is best to gain actionable data and insights that will inform key decisions and improve quality of work to drive business outcomes.
  • Execute Plans & Drive Action: Define processes, roles & resp and tasks and timelines, coordinate with team/partners (DS, DXT, CSpace, C2 UserZoom, etc.) to execute each test/research plan and ensure objectives are met and insights and data will effectively inform key decisions and activities.
    • Meeting facilitation, identifying gaps, blockers and key decisions points to ensure progress of the initiative with team and partners.
  • Data Analytics & Reporting: Mine data from tools including Adobe Analytics, Decibel, Drupal etc., to establish baseline metrics and targets for various studies and tests. Work in partnership with our data team to analyze results, validate findings and ensure accuracy of key data.
    • Create and leverage Adobe Analytics dashboards, Drupal, and other platform data.
    • Analyze and measure success of Beacon design system efforts.
  • Report Learnings & Facilitate Cross Sharing:
    • Ensure documentation of insights, data and learnings are coordinated and share across relevant teams, projects and experiences through the presentations, the Beacon website and other communication channels to drive action and progress for key initiatives.
    • Act as a Research SME and consult across agency and marketing partners: Ensure successful application of the system and digital marketing best practices. Including documented guidance, design comps or mock-ups of system solutions for individual project needs ad hoc
 
Key Skills & Experience: This is a Sr. Manager role requiring 6+ years of experience in UX research with related training/education in UX design. Experience building or maintaining a design system is a plus. To be successful in this role you should have the following skills:
  • Proactive Initiative: You’re a lead and subject matter expert in UX research and user testing with an existing toolkit of strategic frameworks, approaches and experience who can identify what needs to be done and do it with some autonomy.
  • Strategic Thinker: You naturally approach a problem by using a logical, systematic, sequential approach and can clearly envision an objective and the steps needed to achieve it from a research and testing standpoint by weighing the right inputs, determining the best methodology and articulating hypotheses.
  • Communicator: You work well within a team of creative designers and developers and ensure information is shared and documented so there are actionable insights/results and clear next steps and to help align a broad/diverse audience including stakeholders and leadership.
  • Technical Chops: You’ve demonstrated expertise in Research strategy, hypothesis creation, and data analytics. Experienced in using tools such as Adobe analytics, UserZoom, A/B and multi variant testing.  Are knowledgeable in UX design with some formal training or education.
  • Creative Solutioning: You thrive in an agile, sprint-based workflow that can be scrappy and pivot approaches in collaboration with designers and developers while anchoring in on an objective.
