Technical Artist, VR Art team
Location: open to remote candidates local to Meta's Menlo Park and NYC offices
Pay: $75.00/hour
Contract Length: 1-year contract (open for extension/conversion from contract to full-time employment)
Hours: Full time, Mon-Fri 40 hours/week
Contract Type: W2

A Technical Artist is responsible for the technical aspects of art asset development. This entails working closely with Art and Engineering to develop and support the asset pipeline, animation and rigging tools, animation rigs, and real-time effects.

  • Partner closely and lead the engineering and design teams in defining and developing content
  • Design, manage and maintain the pipeline from artists and designers through to deployment
  • Optimize content through enhancing performance and instructing the artists and designers on asset creation, modeling and texturing best practices
  • Manage the technical animation pipeline including developing Maya tools and plug-ins for rigging and animation, and hooking up animations
  • Develop broad technical expertise to assist in a wide variety technical and artistic tasks
  • Quickly solve issues with cross-functional leads
  • Thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environment

  • 3+ working with Maya, Python/PyMEL, PySide/PyQt
  • 3+ years' experience in game development or film as a Technical Artist
  • Experience collaborating on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience communicating across team members, including engineers and artists
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling and asset creation packages like Maya, Houdini, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, ZBrush, Knald, Marmoset, Photoshop, etc.
  • Experience with game optimization techniques

  • Experience building mobile applications
  • Content development experience, including shipping one or more titles
  • Prior virtual reality experience
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies
  • Shader programming experience
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine 4 and/or Unity
