Position Overview

The Payroll Manager is accountable for successful execution of the overall US and Canadian payroll processes, owning the day-to-day relationship with payroll vendors.

This role serves as the liaison between IT, Finance, Treasury, Internal/External Audit, Benefits, and third party vendors regarding any payroll and tax related matters. The payroll manager is responsible for all tax reporting, tax records and garnishment activity and ensures the liabilities and expenses are accurately calculated, documented and funded in accordance with all levels of tax agency requirements. The supervisor leads projects to improve payroll processes and enhance payroll technology.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct oversight for US and Canadian payroll operations
  • Provide oversight for time & attendance solutions for North America
  • Ensures timely and accurate gross to net pay for all associates
  • Oversees calculation and confirmation of the off-cycle pay process
  • Maintain SOX controls for Payroll matters and ensures regulatory SOX compliance
  • Performs payroll audit functions
  • Monitors and accounts for inbound and outbound electronic files to GL and third-party vendors
  • Covers for team members in back-up role for vacation and/or high-volume work efforts
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of third party interfaces that include direct deposits, taxes, and garnishments
  • Responsible for year-end processing and procedures, including W2's and T4's
  • Monitors the payroll system to ensure it is operating properly and integrity of the data is assured
  • Interprets tax notices, regulatory changes, and system upgrades as they relate to tax and garnishments
  • Serves as primary contact with ADP Tax Service and government agencies, including resolving tax notices and discrepancies for all current and prior FEINs. Interface with applicable governing authorities.
  • Performs periodic audits to ensure processes and adherence to policy and procedures.
  • Responsible for all tier 2 payroll related tickets from HR Ticketing system
  • Leads system enhancements, fixes and upgrades. Participates in testing and necessary system configuration.
  • Leads a team of payroll analysts, responsible for their development and growth

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in payroll processing, required
  • Strong payroll vendor management experience
  • Familiar with payroll operations and administration
  • Experience creating and maintaining payroll SOX controls/narratives
  • Strong PC skills. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Previous experience supervising others

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate to various levels of management to clarify needs and gather business solution requirements
  • Strong problem solving skills. Ability to determine needs, propose solutions and obtain end user support.
  • Experience engaging with IT and vendors to convey requirements and manage technical outcome to completion
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Robust interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience ADP, SAP HR, and Employee Central Payroll, preferred
  • Certified Payroll Professional, preferred

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience
