Worthington Armstrong Venture (WAVE), a joint venture of Worthington and Armstrong World Industries, has established worldwide leadership in production of suspended ceiling systems. WAVE produces metal ceiling grids that can be combined with Armstrong ceiling boards as a complete package or sold individually.
Summary
The CAD Drafter provides support to Product Development, Sales, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Distributors, Installers and Architects in the design and drafting of building construction assemblies and components for custom suspended ceiling systems, from high level concept sketches to detailed Architectural specification drawings. Working from a customer order specification, the CAD Drafter converts the specification to a detailed drawing that can be used for manufacturing and installation in the field by the end customer. Experience with architectural details fabrication and assembly of typical building components required.
Responsibilities
  • 2D drafting of component level parts and sub-assemblies, including those generated from 3D solid models
  • 3D solid modeling with AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor is a plus
  • Technical knowledge of mechanical elements and construction to support preparing technical specification of products
  • Familiarity with extruded aluminum and shop fabrication methods (sheet bending, welding, cutting, and typical fabrication operations)
  • Review specification/request and identify missing or additional information needed to complete the design project
  • Effectively interact with customers, customer service, sales and manufacturing personnel by phone, email and in person to gather detailed information needed
  • Work directly with customers and manufacturing before, during and after assembly phase of projects, as needed

  • Prioritize effectively, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Deliver accurate drawings that meet or beat expected turn-around timing
  • Prepare printed drawings for manufacturing personnel
  • Complete design projects and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision

Desired Experience
  • Associate degree or Certificate in Computer-Aided Design, Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years of 2D design drafting using AutoCAD 2014
  • 3D solid modeling using AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor preferred
  • 3-5 years' experience with Architectural/Building Products
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Problem solving/Analytical thinking
  • Understanding of construction processes and key players
  • Capability to work well individually and in a team setting
