Title: Technical Writer III
Location: Redmond, WA (Remote until further notice)
Duration: 12-month project with the opportunity for an extension!

  • Determine the needs of the users of the documentation. Users could range from internal partners to external consumers.
  • Work closely with Facebook technical experts to understand the system, prototype, or product to be documented. Focus on making systems easier to use by planning, organizing, writing, editing and publishing technical documentation.
  • Create documentation that is concise, easy to read and grammatically correct.
  • Utilize text, photographs, drawings, diagrams, graphics, charts, sample code, and/or sample scripts that improve comprehension, selecting the appropriate medium for both the message and audience.
  • Develop, generate, review and edit technical content.
  • Publish and distribute content to the appropriate audience, making the content easily accessible to the people that need it most.
  • Evaluate whether the content is serving its desired purpose, and revise content as issues arise.
  • Provide feedback to engineering teams on how systems, prototypes and products can be improved in order to improve documentation.
  • Follow existing standards, guidelines and best practices for documentation. Where appropriate, propose and establish new guidelines.
  • We are looking for a developer-writer experienced in creating SDKs and code samples for a documentation project with one of our large clients in Redmond, WA. In this role, you'll create code documentation for internal use by multiple functions to help facilitate AR/VR product development.
  • If you're the right fit for the role, you're an experienced developer-writer with particularly notable skill in communicating well across disciplines.
  • You can sit with engineering one day and R&D the next, asking good questions, listening deeply, and pulling out/synthesizing the salient information for your documentation. Your writing is clear, approachable, and unassuming, and your code samples are clean and useful.
  •  You're not thrown by the ambiguity inherent in developing new technology, you're resourceful, and you're able to ramp up quickly. Ideally, you have experience with virtual/augmented reality, and you may also have game development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience creating technical documentation
  • Strong C++ skills (able to read and create code samples)
  • Experience with AR/VR technology
  • Game development experience
  • Voice Technology development experience
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in technical writing, product documentation, and online publishing.
  • Strong technical writing skills regardless of the subject or audience.
  • Portfolio that shows a practical knowledge of modern content.
  • Experience with building SDKs and developer-facing documentation.
  • Proven ability to ramp up quickly with deep technical subject matter and work independently.
  • Experience documenting complex systems, leading teams, and establishing style guides, and reviewing/editing others' writing.
  • Independent worker who needs minimum oversight but knows when to escalate issues.
  • Experience using customer data to improve the customer experience.
