Be a part of developing the future of both augmented and virtual reality. As a Technical Program Manager on the Optics and Display Research Team, you will work closely with Research, Optics and Facebook. You'll be a critical member of a multi-disciplinary team contributing to our efforts making robust visual experiences possible. The Optics and Display Research team develops device and system level AR and VR optical solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • The Technical Project Manager III will work closely with optical, mechanical, electrical and graphics researchers to pull together a complete AR optical system
  • Must be well versed in technical program management skills as well as able to communicate at a high technical level on high risk projects with research experts
  • Knowledge of material science, optics and systems engineering will be valuable skills for this position
  • The Technical Project Manager II will eliminate barriers to your team's success, clearly communicating results to all stakeholders and ensuring the big picture stays in focus while delving into the details on specific issues. Ideal team members are adaptable and resilient, eager to attack unfamiliar problems with curiosity and tenacity, and able to use a light touch to find ways to help the team be more efficient
  • Work with research and engineering teams to define and deliver technical solutions for new to the world materials and opto-mechanical systems
  • Identify and communicate program requirements, scope, constraints, dependencies, and risks
  • Provide key stakeholders with full visibility of the program schedule, progress and potential roadblocks
  • Proactively identify technical, legal, procedural, logistical, and communication issues and drive creative solutions to fix them and manage risk
  • Ensure that the information your team needs is complete, current, accurate, and accessible
  • Coordinate communication between internal and external teams, vendors and partners
  • Manage projects with suppliers and partners from writing statement of work to final deliverables in collaboration with support functions such as Business Development, Legal, and Procurement
  • Establish best practices and refine processes for better communication and positive outcomes
  • Cross disciplinary communication of hardware, software and electrical system requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in optical engineering, materials science, engineering or similar field 
  • 5+ years of program management experience
  • Experience leading research and development programs
  • Project management, leadership and cross-group collaboration experience
  • Communication/presentation ability through all levels of the organization, technical and non-technical
  • Self-starter with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Able to create clarity within complex and ambiguous situations in a highly technical setting. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, influence, and resolve conflicts.
  • Expect to travel domestically and internationally, ~4-6 times a year. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with a cross-disciplinary team of researchers, software engineers and hardware engineers. 
  • Experience working with external vendors/vendor management experience 
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience in processes and manufacturing of optical systems
  • Track record of transitioning immature or emerging technologies into consumer products.
