Internal Communications Manager

The Communications Manager will be responsible for successfully creating, implementing, and realizing Site Services communication campaigns centered around construction, technology, and physical facilities on campus. This person will also work on ad hoc communications projects as needed.

This person will work with cross-functional project teams to understand project drivers, benefits, challenges, and impacts. They will also learn and be the voice of the employees around campus so as to create an effective, integrated, and meaningful communications strategy (by building, sub-campus, and campus-wide). He/she will leverage the communications team's intake process and prioritize their own workload.

This person will develop and execute communications strategies and plans for Site Services projects and programs, including writing, editing, and publishing a broad range of electronic and print materials to inform and engage employees, including announcements, presentations, events, etc. This person will be expected to partner effectively with Corporate Relations to ensure alignment of the Site Services narrative, communications, and strategy to the broader Corporate Relations internal and external communications strategy and to provide appropriate Site Services content for use through corporate channels (intranet, internet, social media, etc.).

This person will be expected to integrate change management tools into the Site Services communication processes to ensure projects are successful by increasing employee awareness and understanding.

This position will report to the Site Services Head of Communications. This is a significant consultative role and hands-on position for an individual who wants to have a significantly positive impact on the perception of Site Services and the overall employee experience.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Create campus-wide project communications strategies and plans ensuring effective and timely communication across the Site Services departments and campus occupants
  • Ensure consistency of messaging throughout Site Services, both in writing and design, while allowing individual "voices” to come through
  • Partner with other members of Site Services to determine and deploy the best communication tools - video, print, graphics, etc. - and strategies to provide different employee groups with the information they need in a format that's easy to find and use
  • Perform technical editing or writing assignments
  • Simplify complex messages while collaborating closely with one or more authors to ensure employees can easily and quickly understand the content.
  • Apply change management concepts to high impact communication plans
  • Own the design, development, delivery and management of project and ad hoc communications
  • Conduct impact analyses, assess change readiness and identify key stakeholders on communication strategies
  • Identify and manage anticipated resistance to communication plans
  • Consult and coach project teams on change impact to employees
  • Partner with Corporate Relations on large employee impacting projects

Skills:
  • 10-12 years of relevant experience in employee communications
  • Advanced skills and technical competency working with the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and google applications
  • Proven collaboration skills across departments and disciplines
  • Skilled at developing creative, simple, transparent, empathetic, and readable communications. Proficient at knowing what communication vehicles will have the most impact.
  • Apply a complete understanding of theories and concepts of communication strategy to independently address a broad range of difficult problems
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools
  • Ability to connect seemingly disparate messages and content into stories easily understood by a broad audience
  • Ability to determine appropriate communication methods and procedures based on stakeholder and user groups
  • Proven ability to produce high quality written communications under tight timelines and to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Perform work under limited direction and guidance

Education:
Master's degree or Bachelor's with equivalent expertise
