Control Systems Support Technician

PURPOSE

 

To support the Parlin plant by providing hardware and software troubleshooting and technical support for the process control systems.

BASIC:

        The Control Systems support technician will report to the Process Control Group.

        The Control Systems support technician will be responsible for daily plant support and troubleshooting only.

        Control Systems support technician shall be On-Call as needed after hours for operations support.

             Control Systems support technician shall be assigned a phone so that they may be contacted during off-hours in the event of an emergency.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Control Systems support technician shall support the following systems:

 

1.       Control System Hardware: 

         Programmable Logic Controllers ( Allen-Bradley PLCs - ControlLogix, SLC, PLC5 and  CompactLogix)

         Human Machine Interfaces

         Drives (Allen-Bradley Powerflex drives etc.)

         Regulated Power supplies

         Single Loop controllers

         Network communication devices (Ethernet-IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet etc.)

 

2.       Control System Field Device:

         Transmitters

         Control Valves

         Switches

         Scales

         Heaters

 

3.       Control System Software:

         RSLogix 5, 500 and 5000.

         FT View Studio

         Wonderware

         Other software as needed

 

4.       Other Tasks:

         Ability to interpret Process & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID�s) and Schematic drawings.

 

         Ability to work effectively with mechanics, operators, engineers, vendors and other Technicians.

 

         Ability to effectively communicate upward, downward and laterally.

 

         Ability to diagnose control system hardware defects/malfunctions.

 

         Ability to diagnose control system network defects/malfunctions.

 

 

         Participate in operations scheduled shutdown and startup support.

 

         Work with Process Control engineers to implement process control improvements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

         Two years Associate degree or five years related experience.

         Excellent troubleshooting skills and abilities are essential for this role.

         Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate productive collaborative relationships with operations, maintenance, and technical personnel.

         Strong communication skills (both written and oral).  

         Must be flexible and a motivated self-starter.  

         Have ability to handle multiple tasks and a high volume workload with shifting and competing priorities. 

         Ability to work safely, efficiently, and effectively with minimal guidance and direction.

         Requires extensive computer skills.

         Understand and apply Site safety policies and procedures.
