Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Lead or participate in projects to evaluate product quality, cost, and throughput from Product Design Engineering and configure it for the production process
Develop project management process
Work alongside other team members and with other cross-functional groups to develop electrical and mechanical systems and identify/implement projects for design optimization of the company's laboratory products, including freezers, biological safety cabinets, shakers, incubators, and water systems
Actively participate in product development cycle to optimize product productivity
Review and approve Engineering Change Requests (ECR's)Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for designs of new and existing products.
Create Bills of Materials (BOM)Work with internal project team which consists of quality, regulatory, R&D, operations, supplier/sourcing, manufacturing, marketing, and sales
Document project progress and track future product development milestones & tasks
Update management on a regular basis on project status.
Identify what is falling behind and what assistance is needed from management to move process forward
Perform all job duties in a safe manner and obey all safety policies and procedures
Perform all job duties consistent with the Code of Ethics and the 4-I Values
Perform all job duties within ISO standards, regulatory or statutory requirements
Other projects, tasks or special assignments could be assigned by the leadership team

Desired Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or Materials Science or... Junior or Senior level mechanical engineering student at UNCA or other local college
Ability to work effectively with people throughout the organization to produce necessary results
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Ability to sit for extended periods of time and utilize CRT/laptop to perform job functions
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:
Experience in a technical manufacturing environmentExperience with regulated environment –including UL, CSA and FDA
Exposure to Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly
Demonstrated understanding of Engineering Change Notices and Bills of Materials
Ability to sit and talk with suppliers on the telephone or in person for extended periods of time
Ability to handle internal and external customer complaints in an effective and efficient manner
Ability work long hours under stressful conditions, closely

Certification as a PMP or Green Belt
Exposure to Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly
Refrigeration manufacturing processes/technology and mechanical/equipment areas, and are skilled in statistical process control methods (DOE / capability analysis / tolerances)
