Sr. Network Engineer

The Sr. Network (Contract) Engineer's primary role is to provide project support and Engineering skills for the projects to which they are assigned. This Contractor Role will be project based and will work on specific projects related to Security, Reliability, and other Network related projects as assigned by the Reporting Manager.

Skills required for the position are a high-level understanding of Cisco networking equipment including Cisco ASA Firewalls, Cisco Switches and Routers, Cisco Nexus, as well as the interoperability of those systems including VLAN's, Trunks, etc. Candidate should have a good understanding of IPSec VPN tunnels and have skill building those on Cisco Firewalls and Routers. Other desirable skills would include F5 LTM/GTM experience, DNS Experience, and high-level experience with other vendor gear.

For the projects to which they are assigned, they will be responsible for all aspects of successful delivery of a Network Infrastructure solution including installation and possible replacement of hardware, sometimes at remote sites. They will be responsible for the configuration and code level of equipment they are deploying, and will be responsible for following the policies and procedures related to doing that type of work at Assurant. This includes following procedures to get devices into Monitoring, following our security and access policies, and other related items, etc. They may need to take direction from other Assurant engineers during these projects.

Candidate must be able to work on multiple projects at once, and handle shifting priorities and workloads along the way. They must be able to communicate effectively, must attend meetings regularly, and be responsible for progress of their part of the projects to which they are assigned. They must be able to keep track of tasks and timelines required to ensure the projects are done on time and as expected. At times they will need to work closely with the customer and our Design team to formulate a final design version based on best practices and their experience. They will need to provide periodic status reports for all projects to which they are assigned to the Reporting manager and others.

They will take direction from the Reporting Manager and will need to regularly and often provide updates on their progress as it pertains to their multiple assigned projects. The Reporting Manager will have sole discretion to assign work and control their participation in whatever project they are assigned. They may also take direction from the Project Manager and other staff as needed, and as is necessary, but the Hiring Manager will have the final say. There will be frequent need for work in the evenings during the week or on weekends, as several systems involved in these projects have maintenance windows that are on evenings or weekends only. They will not participate in an on-call rotation, but may have the need to be available on an as-needed basis for some projects to which they will be assigned. This may include being available as needed off hours at with little notice if things become urgent.
