Senior Network Engineer

The Senior Network Engineer will design solutions, install/setup, and monitor LAN, WAN, and wireless networks. Perform a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, and training tasks to ensure LAN performance meeting corporate and user requirements. Ensure WAN performance is adequate and provide future growth assessments. 
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain wired and wireless network infrastructure such as switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points and controllers, packet shapers, etc. Install, provision, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers within the datacenter.  Aid in the initial installation and upgrades of applications and services.
  • Maintain virtual environment using VMware Infrastructure. Ensure Cloud (AWS) compute infrastructure and hosts are functional and communicating with network efficiently. Maintain SAN and work with support on any issues that arise.  Ensure that documentation of environment is complete and current.
  • Monitor the usage, capacity, and reliability of various network related systems and make recommendations on steps needed to sustain the network infrastructure for current and future applications and load balancing. Identify utilization patterns and their effects on Internet traffic and plan effective ways to maintain the highest quality of service possible. Maintain network monitoring and management system and ensure reporting is accurate. When necessary research and recommend purchases of network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software for use within DTS and community. Ensure expansion of network system is appropriate when new physical areas are created.
  • Troubleshoot networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties. Review Help Desk tickets and respond to client requests and issues in a timely fashion. Develop documentation and training materials on systems to assist users in maximizing their use of the network and computing systems. Ensure that the technology used is as transparent as possible for end user consumption.
  • Plan and implement network security, including updating firewall rules, network equipment firmware, and wireless/wired authentication systems, ACLs, and IDS monitoring. Ensure that vendor and industry standards are being met within reason. Review system logs from various services, alerting system, and authentication systems to ensure abnormal activity is accounted for. 
  • Establish network continuity plans for disaster recovery. Ensure primary systems are protected physically and electronically.
Required skills: 
  • Experience with Cisco and F5 network equipment, PaloAlto firewalls, Wireless equipment, and comparable technology.
  • Familiarity with using network monitoring tools for up/down status, network health and overall High Availability Network performance.
