Job Title: System Administrator - Anchorage, AK
Harris Corporation is seeking a highly motivated Systems Administrator / Software Engineer to work on a team of experienced and highly competent engineers in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a new team member to help handle our increasing load of both day-to-day tasks and engineering work. The ideal candidate will love problem solving, working collaboratively with the customer, have an eye for details, and be self-motivated.
Job Description:
· Performs software installations and upgrades to Solaris and RedHat operating systems and layered software packages and maintains them in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements.
· Administers assigned Enterprise systems such as enterprise data storage administration (EMC/NetApp), enterprise server virtualization (VMWare) to ensure systems are functioning properly. Troubleshoots hardware, software, and wide area network related problems associated with the assigned Enterprise systems or systems.
· Coordinates with remote site functions for installations, moves, and troubleshooting issues associated with assigned system or systems; provides recommendations for related computer hardware and software purchases.
· Coordinates with vendors to resolve issues, arrange service, and obtain support. Installs and provides support for commercially obtained software.
· Monitors and tunes the system to achieve good working order and optimum level of performance and appropriate security. Ensures server data integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
· Conducts routine hardware and software audits of servers for compliance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines. Knowledgeable of networking associated with a LAN based server and workstations.
· Manages and directs proactive and reactive systems administration activities to ensure the availability, integrity, and reliability of networked and stand-alone resources.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent amount of experience plus a minimum of 5+ years of applicable experience
· 3+ years of experience using the Software Development Lifecycle and associated best practices, such as application of coding standards, unit testing and code review
· 3+ years of experience using RedHat Linux and Windows operating systems
· 3+ years of experience using Java based programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Jython) database environments (SQL) and scripting languages (e.g. Python, Unix shell, Bash).
· 3+ years of experience using object-oriented design and network management systems skills
· 3+ years with System Integration, automation, and command and control of standard Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) equipment
· 3+ years of experience integrating and troubleshooting very complicated interfaces and interactions.
· 1+ years of experience using Eclipse
Preferred Additional Skills:
· Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) hardware command and control
· Experience with MaxView or CodeMettle a plus
· Responsible and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Good communication and problem solving skills.
· Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
This position requires Public Trust security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
Intake Call Notes:
Program is trying to find someone who will be local or willing to relocate to AK at their own expense
Oppty for FTE for the right person but would require them to relocate to Melbourne, FL once project ends
At least a one year program but could take longer. This person could get hired as FTE for another program if this program ended.

A modern telecommunications system; setting up new commuincation network throughout Alaskan government sites.
Overall team in Alaska consist of 15 to 20 people; 3 on system admin team
Strong technical knowledge, be able to identify root problems and triage problem as quickley as possible
Look at local universities in Alaska
Open to market feedback on compensation if the pay rate needs to be adjusted
Open to adjusting qualifications if needed
Degree is strongly desired but not required if this person has the experience and meets the qualifications
