Description/Comment:The New Tractor Trailer Driver Trainer will be responsible for training Tractor Trailer Driver Candidates based on company guidelines. This position can only be filled with a retired UPS management employee or a Former UPS referred by the Hiring Manager with a yes rehire status. He/She will provide training in a classroom and on-road setting giving an overview of UPS safe work methods and Department of Transportation regulations. Trainer will reinforce the health and safety culture UPS expects of all employees. Trainer will distribute materials and administer compliance assessments to ensure drivers overall understanding. Meet all of the applicable requirements as specified by the D.O.T. and be CDL qualified. Trainers must have been UPS DTS qualified .
Demonstrates a detailed understanding of processes, procedures, and methods; demonstrates a broad knowledge of tools, equipment, and technology; describes and understands the general structure of the operation. Approximately 40 hours per week (able to work overtime as needed); must be flexible to locations and district assignments as needed; occasional weekends as needed and possible overnight stay depending on assignment location. [Note: Worker will be reimbursed for approved expenses following the UPS Expense guidelines.] The New Tractor Trailer Driver Trainer will complete classroom instruction on job methods, safety compliance, and insure students are proficient in all areas of the Tractor Trailer Driver job. Conducts/facilitates all district-wide safety training and certifications as well as train job methods, conducts testing and coordinate other speakers where needed. Safety Training will revolve around defensive driving techniques and safe work methods. Certifications will be conducted in class and on-road. This position requires that the Trainer will be riding and driving in a UPS/Leased vehicle on and off property. The New Tractor Trailer Trainer will train drivers on the road to assess utilization of methods (e.g., stopping properly, entering and exiting of truck properly, lifting properly, etc). Teaches drivers how to use the In Vehicle Information System (IVIS) to ensure drivers are paid correctly and know their schedules. This Trainer position does not have the authority to make any pre-employment or employment decisions, or sign regulatory documents. These roles/responsibilities would fall to the UPS management person that this Trainer reports to. This person will be responsible for providing input to the UPS management on the Driver Candidate’s status (Qualified/Not Qualified).
